Thank you or not

Yes, I thank people who do things for me -- friends, plumbers, whoever. It's just polite and the way I was brought up. I don't get upset if people don't say thank you to me, though -- I don't keep score.

Yes, I thank my husband for taking out the garbage is one example. Sure it's his job but I want him to know I appreciate that he does it and he does a good job of it too. I thank the checkers at the grocery store, I try to thank everyone. It makes people smile and feel better about themselves and it costs me nothing.

Courtesy costs nothing.

If I hold the door open for a lady and I don't get a "Thank You" I usually amend my opinion that she is a lady!

I must admit a usually do get one, even if I sometimes also get a dig about being sexist!

Yes, people should be thanked and I thank anyone who helps me. I find that what you put out into the universe comes back to you.

Yes of course. It's the educated well brought up thing to do and it helps to make the world a better place in a small way. That counts for a lot.

Too many people go through life finding fault with others. We are quick to pass out complaints, but slow to compliment... or say thank you. The more we compliment... the more we say thank you... the more smiles we will see. And, in so many situations, the folks who remember you said thanks will, in turn, pass smiles on to others.

It depends. As a general rule if they are just doing what they are employed to do and nothing more, then no. In any case only ever "diolch" (dee-och) and if the English don't like it then tough.

Aeron, and if they're not Welsh, do they know they've been thanked? If not, what's the point of saying anything?

If a resident of Gryffindor says, "Mumsplank" because that's the word they use at Hogwarts, does that count? :)

When we go to England or anywhere English is spoken WE are expected to use English. When English people come to Wales they should at least understand the basics of our language.

I always say Thank You to people that help me even if it is their job to do it. I guess it's because of the way I was raised. My Parent's always taught us to be polite and to respect others.

I always say Thank You regardless if they were suppose to do it or not. I just want them to know I appreciate that they are doing it.

Yes. At the grocery store I shop at, I am enough of a regular that many of the folks recognize me and go out of their way to say hi, and help me out. I know when I used to work retail, people could be mean, rude, or just ignore the people helping them. I make it a point to be friendly, and say thanks when I leave.

If in doubt, I'd say thanks anyway. There is enough meanness and grouchiness in the world; why add to it? It costs nothing to be pleasant.
