Carefully read and considered your input in the naproxen and ibuprofen article. Now let's consider aspirin. It doesn't carry the same cardiovascular and stroke warnings as the other two, but its effect on the stomach and kidneys has been documented for 120 years.

How often do you use this drug for anti-inflammatory pain?

I take aspirin, 85mg., daily, and have done so for around twenty years. My blood stays "thin" which is the point, my platelet count is very low normal. I bleed a little more from routine cuts, but that's no big deal to me. I've had tooth extractions, no problems. I'll keep taking aspirin until I'm outta this life.

I rarely take aspirin for pain but I do I take one 325 mg. tablet every morning, with my PCP's blessing, to ward off evil spirits.

I've always taken it in the morning but I've been reading that it is more effective if taken at bedtime, I need to ask my PCP about it on my next visit.

Keep us informed, AB. I take my aspirin with breakfast. I'd like to get some opinions on nighttime use.

Rarely, and only after eating a meal.

I can't take NSAIDs. They shut down my kidneys. I was lucky and they're working again now.

I rarely need to take anything for pain. When I do need something, I'll take aspirin.
I've never believed in daily aspirin to "protect" me from anything. Recent research shows no benefit that's worth the risk.
When my dad was around 80, he took daily aspirin on the advice of his doctor. He had to go to the ER three times with GI bleeding. On the third visit, the ER doctor told me he would have bled out in a few more minutes. And daily aspirin has been implicated in falls in the elderly. My dad died as a result of his last fall - after 4 previous falls. Coincidence? Maybe, or maybe blood thinners caused balance problems, dizziness & vertigo & contributed.
I also recall Bob Hope's doctor saying his last hospitalization was caused by a "GI Bleed."
And that NBA announcer who died several years ago - "Chick Hearn" died of a fall. His doctor said, "Blood thinners caused balance issues." That was when I started researching it. It seemed like a good idea back then & I wanted to understand how something that was so often recommended by doctors could cause harm.

I look at it this way: If it was a good idea, we could take a whole bunch of drugs to "protect" us from illnesses we don't have. They would do more harm than good.

Can aspirin 'slow-down' the kidneys ?

If we can't take NSAIDS , and we can't take opioids ? What the hell are we supposed to take for pain ?

NSAIDS taken regularly, are extremely destructive to the intestines, as is aspirin. Tylenol taken regularly, damages the liver. 😞
Maybe the key word is "Chronic." I doubt occasional Tylenol or Aspirin will cause problems. But taken every day, they would probably build up in the system & cause damage. Even opioids are OK when used as they're designed - only short term following major surgery. The problem is many doctors realize the Gold Mine & drug company perks & prescribe them for chronic pain & daily use, which they weren't designed for due to addiction.

As a pilot, I learned to tolerate pain. I never felt safe taking and meds prior to a flight. Those dog-gone random drug checks had all of us gun-shy. You never knew when someone would tap you on the shoulder and hand you a bottle.

People taking daily 85mg aspirin to thin blood, what test result told your doctor your blood was thick?! How long ago were you told to do it?

I don’t think it’s taken because a test showed thick blood. If a person is considered at risk or had a heart attack, their doctor will usually put them on a regiment of 81mgs. Aspirin daily.

Not everyone has the same reaction to NSAIDs that I did. But it's good to get a complete blood count every so often to check how your organs are functioning. I take Tylenol and medical marijuana for pain. Tylenol can shut down your liver, so I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't.

Yes. And there is no one who isn't at risk (according to the doctor)
"Your mother...father....brother....sister... had a heart attack & they run in families."
"You have diabetes or pre diabetes."
"Your cholesterol is high."
"Your blood pressure is high."
"You're over 50."
"You're overweight."
"You're black." (studies show more blacks get heart attacks & strokes)
"You drink too much."
"You don't drink enough." (alcohol thins the blood)
