That was a long time ago(The Queens Coronation)

Although American, my mother with English heritage was agog over British royalty, and came back from a visit to Britain with souvenirs of the Queen’s then 50th anniversary celebration.

As rare as a coronation can be, I’ve heard it described as a once-in-a-lifetime event, akin to the appearance of Halley’s Comet every 70 years!

I was six years old and the only memory I have is of a huge flag flown between our house and the one next door. If I attended any party I don't have any recollection of it and no photographs taken on the day. :( I do however have a photo of the Coronation street party, which my mother was part of, to celebrate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937.

I was 5 yrs. old, and my two older sisters came home from school wearing crepe paper robes trimmed with
cotton batting. The school children were given coins to commemorate the event.
