How long after thawing [in a refrigerator] is chicken still good ? I took it from the freezer & put it in the fridge Sat, and would like to crockpot cook it Christmas day {Didn't realize Christmas was a week away] Would it be safe to eat ?

I wouldn’t wait.

Cook it now and reheat it on Saturday.

Good luck!

I know me ...... LOL ...... if i smell it cooking, I'll be really tempted to eat it now. Could do that I suppose , and have something else on Christmas . Or just pitch-it & buy fresh ?

Today would be 5 days in the fridge ..... but you think today it would still be good ?

No, I DO NOT. Throw it away. You have to be very careful with chicken

The issue is what was the last "best used by date" of the chicken BEFORE you
put it in the freezer? Most folks don't mark their animal product packages, so to be safe, just toss it. Its already got 5 days mileage on it.

For instance, if you had purchased the chicken (which had 2 weeks till expiration date) and IMMEDIATELY froze it that day, you would be ok, but like who knows now?! Freezing stops the mileage clock.

If it was frozen when you put it in the refrigerator on Sunday I would cook it today.

I guess we all need to use our own judgment.

Nope. I wouldn't eat it either!

I would think that it probably isn't smelling too good right about now.....

It's important to note that Google search results are NOT Google "recommendations". They're websites/pages that managed to get to the top of the Google search results due to Google's listing formula (called an "algorithm"). NOT recommendations.

Same with any search engine.

I found this on the US Department of Agriculture website:

Knowledge Article
While foods are in the process of thawing in the refrigerator (40 °F or less), they remain safe. After thawing, use ground meats, poultry, and fish within one or two additional days, and use beef, pork, lamb or veal (roasts, steaks, or chops) within three to five days.

Very good advice.
That must be the reason my Boa Constrictor always ate his rat within a few seconds of killing it - he wanted to make sure it was fresh & safe to eat.

Incredible reply.
Why? Poultry turns bad very fast and food poisoning will make you very sick and kill you very fast. I’ve had food poisoning as a child. Most frozen foods need to be defrosted in the fridge, or the microwave, and cooked right away.
