The 5 Foods That Contribute To Memory Loss in Seniors

I do eat cereals. I know they are not great for you. I will not EVER give up bread. I'm surprised chips (my favorite food group) isn't on the list. Talk about processed. All of them.

I don't drink diet soda, I do drink the flavored waters, no tuna. And microwave popcorn, I knew that stuff was bad years ago.

Perhaps Sugar doesn't affect memory
Indeed. Is obviously not a black and white factor as is not so simple as our bodies varies greatly especially due to are extremely complex biochemical systems. I consume a ridiculous amount of sugar because I can and don't become overweight. That noted, my weight does increase from consuming fatty foods and is why I resist enjoying ice cream, pizza, potato chips, burgers, and like foods as much as I might.

Exactly my thoughts too... I too consume a lot of sugar... but as you say, it's only when I start eating fatty foods to excess that the weight piles on...

I swore off regular canned tuna because it's an awful product akin to cat food imo. I do eat canned albacore from Raincoast Trading. There are no preservatives, oil, or water, and it's handpacked and not cooked prior to canning. Most other tuna is cooked and then canned subjecting the tuna to heat twice. These days I think they boil up huge quantities of tuna and fill the cans w tuna "slurry." Gross.............

I think that these lists, that we see occasionally, are
just somebody's opinion.

Mike.
You could be right @Mike. It seems like every day someone is coming out with a new list of forbidden foods and if we all abided by their recommendations we'd probably starve.

there's no slurry in the Tuna in the cans I buy. It's all very chunky Tuna

Probably seed oils rather than olive oil, coconut oil, etc. But that's just today's "determination."

A lot of this is really fad and fashion and marketing, but how can we know which? Also partial information doesn't help (popcorn is fine, it's the crap in the bag with it in microwave popcorn that's under suspicion). Then there is superstition ("Microwave ovens are the Devil and/or unnatural").

What we do is exercise moderation and caution.
I recall reading about illness in the factory that produced fake butter such as is used for microwave popcorn.

take it as you wish... but these 5 foods according to Julia Lundstrom, noted author and neuroscience researcher.
In order of danger to our memories

1) Diet soda
2) Cereal
3) Whole wheat bread
4) Microwaved popcorn
5) Canned tuna in oil
But these are all my favorite foods. I also love cholesterol.

I am the opposite. When I first cut back on my sugar I easily lost 10 pound with not other effort and eating as much and as often as I wished. Cutting the highly processed carbs helped me lose another 25 pounds and keep it off. That was harder. Fat? No issue for me, though I do not advocate eating “fat bombs” as some low-carb folks do.

I think we have proved that each of us needs to test ourselves to see what is safe for us and what will cause problems.
