The Archbishop of Canterbury has resigned, days after a damning report into a prolific child abuser associated with the Church of England.
It would seem that the Archbishop knew about the allegations of child abuse, but took to action on the matter. In recent days, there was mounting pressure for him to resign and his position became untenable.

What was once untenable is no more in the United States of America. Just do it. Who cares about morality anymore.........what once was abominable is now okay. Enjoy. Damn the naysayers.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, expressed regret over the Church’s past safeguarding failures, but at the time not his own failures, or so it seems? He had previously cited a “conspiracy of silence” within the church, but he then distanced himself from it by failing to mention his own silence?

An 'interesting character', someone who had expressed sorrow and regret for the institutional failures within his own institution still hasn't apologised for his own personal inaction. Even after being put under pressure to resign.

Apparently, some of his blind followers hold him in high esteem for some reason.

Sadly, none of this is new.

What is new is the fact that these things do come to light and have consequences when for years they were often ‘secrets’ that were not spoken of but were well known to the church and its members.

Another example of the unhealthy bugaboo surrounding sex.

IMO age appropriate conversations and education would go a long way towards ending or certainty limiting this type of behavior.

Archbishop Welby's opinion on several topics is not in accordance with the Labour government.

According to Wikipedia he called for the start of a COVID-19 public inquiry, is concerned about rises in energy prices, criticizes the Islam, wore a Kippah at a synagogue to show his sympathy, criticizes the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and other parts of the world and he did not consider it homophobic to oppose gay sex, to mention only some points.

Justin Welby - Wikipedia

I think that the allegation against him is politically motivated.

Maybe we all have heard stories that sort of doesn't hold the Sunday sermons faith.

I hold the Roman Catholic Church in general responsible for these reprehensible acts. With the priesthood being closed to married men, it (intentionally or unintentionally) invites men whose abusive predilections would otherwise be discovered fairly quickly.

Instead, there's a wall of silence. Sometimes it's as simple as the mutual blackmail young siblings hold over each other: I won't tell on you if you won't tell on me).

Nuns of weren't much better, but their abuses seem to have been mostly limited to corporal punishment that went well beyond what the crimes called for. Childhood friends forced to attend Catholic school had some pretty terrifying tales to tell. Unhappy women who were drawn to the church's protection because they couldn't make it in the outside world...

Mr Welby.
I think that this story is just the tip of the iceberg, and the media will be like jackals to get to the bottom of it.
More resignations I suspect.
I hope so... usually once the hunters have harpooned the biggest Prey they walk away and dont look for the hidden ones.. I hope the Hunters stay around and search under every rock...

My mother was raised by evil Nuns from the age of 2 , I've spoken of it here before... ..she was routinely beaten, made to scrub floors on hands and knees with cold water from the age of 5 , and the nuns would kick the bucket of water over, and she would get beaten , and have to start again. She had to attend Prayer every day, and 3 times on a Sunday... they were beaten for everything and anything..
