The bane of the modern world "Nimby" rears it's ugly head again

In Sydney it has been proposed that Rosehill Race Course should be sold and the site used to provide $25,000 new homes. The people opposing the sale are the owners (shareholders? Members of the Turf Club? ) and they have resorted to having the Premier of NSW referred to ICAC, which stands for Independent Commission Against Corruption. There's a lot of money backing opposition to the plan.

Sydney racecourse set to be replaced by 25,000 homes as state government commits to Metro West project
More often than not the money people get their way because those making the decisions are corrupt to the core.
It is well known and has been spoken of very often, particularly in the last 2 weeks in Parliament.
Every one knows of the coruption but no one has the guts to stop it.

They been cutting down a 500' high bluff for years, hauling it to build the Trash mountains.
They are at the edge of a mansion on the top of the bluff now. The ground is flat & well
above a flood plain, most likely good for a parking lot. Doubt affordable housing will get
constructed. Most likely a Menards or Sams Club at that corner.

Lots of Fast Food and Moto Marts being built at the other end of town, mostly flat ground.
Hannible, Mo. has lots of new affordable housing and only 120 miles off. People move to
Jobs and decent housing all the time.

I have received a response from those in charge of the Fremantle Oval Redevelopment Masterplan.

Thank you for taking the time to get in contact with us regarding the Fremantle Oval Redevelopment Masterplan, and apologies for the delay in responding to your enquiry. My colleague Kavi Guppta and I form the Community Engagement team here at the City and we are now both back on deck after the holiday period. We ran the public engagement for the Fremantle Oval redevelopment project and in the process heard from many community members who emphasised the need for affordable and low-cost housing in the inner Fremantle area – including in the Oval precinct.

Public feedback gathered during the first round of engagement for the Draft Masterplan showed community support for residential development within the Fremantle Oval precinct and hence the aim of “Providing essential mixed-use housing” as part of this redevelopment has been incorporated into the final Fremantle Oval Redevelopment Masterplan document, which was approved by Council on November 27, 2024.

The adopted Masterplan provides the framework for the project to be developed in more detail and will be used to support continuing engagement with State and Federal government via an advocacy plan, to help secure funding commitments and guide ongoing project planning. This is where the project currently lies, in an election year where the City is trying to negotiate and secure as much funding for the project as possible.
The aim and ability to incorporate mixed-use and affordable housing has not changed, but will be contingent on the funding commitments that are awarded, community feedback on the eventual Fremantle Oval Concept Masterplan that will be produced, as well as the business case review that is scheduled for March this year.

I encourage you to subscribe to our Community Engagement newsletter, where updates on this project will be shared.

This is one of the problems with having central control. People should be able to decide what happens in their local area. If someone has enough money to live in a really nice part of the world, why should they have to put up with lower quality neighbours? It is a fact that poverty and poor behaviour are linked.
I'm on the side of 'monied people' on this one, even though I'm not one myself.

In Wmind it’s all just progress.

Why blame the ‘monied’ people for buying and developing property, why not blame the people who sell their dilapidated old buildings and move on to a better life. 🤔

IMO we need to do a better job of educating people so they can compete and thrive in the world without the government putting its thumb on the scale in an attempt to remove the risk and the reward of life.
We can't all be the 'Monied People'. Somebody's got to be the dishwasher.

And those moneys will go to the developers. They will love having tax payers pay for a development; they will build a few "affordable" houses, cheap pieces of crap, but the tax payers will pay for the infrastructure, roads, etc., for the entire development.
