The Beatles or The Rolling Stones??

We all know these two famous rock groups and many of us listened to them when we were younger. Who did you prefer? The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?

I liked both but considered the Stones better educated and more interesting. Songs like Lady Jane and Sympathy for the Devil had historical references. Also the Stones saw what was wrong with society and complained more in their songs like Mother's Little Helper, Satisfaction, Gimme Shelter, and Heartbreaker. The Beatles early songs were mostly about love and love gone wrong. Later they became transcendental and later still completely vague. I never understood Helter Skelter at all but played the white album to death.

My slight preference was the Stones because I related to them better, but I do think the Beatles had greater impact on rock music as whole than the Stones, perhaps because they broke up before they became irrelevant.

So which is your pick between these two?

I was never a fan of either when I was young. Both were my mothers' era tbf.. early 60's music, when I was just 6 or 7 years old..

I never appreciated the Beatles music until pretty recently tbh, altho' individually as a teen I liked both George and Ringos' music.... .. I still don't like the Stones music... .. but Chic you're right, the Stones are far more educated, and every member of the Stones has another secondary ''hobby'' that they excel in..

I liked them both and which one was my fav band switched back and forth as each would come out with a new album that I liked. Kind of lost interest in both later on though as it seemed to me their creative efforts were running in a different direction to the type of music that interested me.

For me it's the Stones. I do like the Beatles and believe that many of their songs will be considered timeless even a century from now but the Stones hit my soul. And I like the fact that they often were sloppy sounding. However if you listen closely to that "sloppy" sound you will discover that it is just as musically brilliant as the Beatles clean studio sound. I know the Beatles did the "sloppy" sound at times but it seemed contrived.

Plus there was always a tinge of danger to the Stones while the Beatles were pretty much squeaky clean, even during their druggie phase. I'll take the tinge of danger in the Rock world over the squeaky clean side.

Nice thing about this topic is that there is no right or wrong :)

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Who
Herman's Hermits
The Bee Gees
Tommy James and the Shondells
America
Eagles

Just to name a few. Thank God we don't have to choose which hit makers we like the best. They are all super.

And let’s not forget …
Abba and The Beach Boys (-8
I loved the Beach Boys. Favorite American band. Saw them in concert 3 times. Each time they had a an opening act. The 3rd time was the charm.
First time I saw them in concert, the opening act was Exile (a band from the late 70's), the 2nd time was the Marshall Tucker Band (a southern rock band), the last time the opening act was the Everly Brothers. Loved that concert.

Abba? Listened to them on the radio. Never bought any of their records though.

I can't choose. I loved them both. The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan when I was in the 6th grade. That was the day I got "into" music of my own. Until then I played my mother's records. All of a sudden I had to start buying my own.

As an adult, including now, I have albums by both groups and play them often. It depends on my mood which I play that day. I would not say one is better than the other. Just different. The Rolling Stones is more "bluesy" sounding to me and I like that. I also have George Harrison and Paul McCartney's albums too. I really like George Harrison and think he was much better as a solo artist.

The Stones, man…Fred and Wilma, Barney and Betty…yeah, the Flintstones, in Bedrock…

Oh, the groups! Still the Stones, man. I appreciated the Beatles, but they were a bit too pretty sounding for me. The Rolling Stones were darker, and produced more punchy, gut-rocking sounds. I also liked The Who a lot… 🎶

Rather depends, the Beatles wrote many fantastic songs, some covered by other famous artists, and for me left the Stones standing.
Plus in the Day again it was the Beatles. However, moving on I just love the Stones and their energy, what are they on I want some.

I prefered The Beatles , but in their earley days , I wasnt taken with the Sgt Pepper Album,My Husband was a Fan of Rolling Stones and for his birthday he went to a Stones Concert, our daughter went with him because i didnt like them .

The Beatles. Never cared for the Rolling stones. I always thought of the difference between the two groups were one was good and the other evil...... the beatles were the good, Stones the evil.
Beatles were about love, stones were we about sex, drugs. Just my opinion.
