The Beatles or The Rolling Stones??

We all know these two famous rock groups and many of us listened to them when we were younger. Who did you prefer? The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?

I liked both but considered the Stones better educated and more interesting. Songs like Lady Jane and Sympathy for the Devil had historical references. Also the Stones saw what was wrong with society and complained more in their songs like Mother's Little Helper, Satisfaction, Gimme Shelter, and Heartbreaker. The Beatles early songs were mostly about love and love gone wrong. Later they became transcendental and later still completely vague. I never understood Helter Skelter at all but played the white album to death.

My slight preference was the Stones because I related to them better, but I do think the Beatles had greater impact on rock music as whole than the Stones, perhaps because they broke up before they became irrelevant.

So which is your pick between these two?
I love them both !

I like both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, both very good bands that I could relate to back then and now. I think I lean toward the Rolling Stones. One of my first albums as a teen, and I didn't have many, was Flowers.

Both are excellent and The Stones definitely should win a major award for endurance and stability... what with their ongoing popularity over 50 years of performing...How a band could stay together for so many years and still be making hits, is nearly Unfathomable! They are in my top five, but I'd have to say my #1 Best Band of All Time is The Beatles! My list would probably be:
1. Beatles 2. Pink Floyd 3. Led Zeppelin 4. The Stones 5. The Eagles. Thanks for asking!

Between the two, I would pick the Beatles. Though not a HUGE fan. Just preferred their music. When I was young I liked the Dave Clark 5, Paul Revere and the Raiders actually

You might think that being a Baby-Boomer 60's music would be much to my liking. Actually it just passed me by. My Dad's 1930's small record collection was worn thin listening to the songs on a wind-up gramophone. Later, when I got into Latin & Ballroom dancing, much of the songs of the 1940's became a favourite.

In the UK in 1963, Liverpool band: Gerry & The Pacemakers took the song "You'll Never Walk Alone," to number one. I vividly remember being corrected when I said that actually, Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1945. The song was from the musical, Carousel, written by Rogers & Hammerstein.

A long time later, probably more than a year, one of my detractors told me that I was right, apparently his parents had seen the production of Carousel at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in 1950. He told me that his Dad said I was a young head on old shoulders.

I agree with some of your sentiments there HC, the 30s, 40s, and 50s did it for me.
I can't stand loud drums or electric guitars, I much prefer the warmer tones of saxaphones.
I did like some of the Lennon/McCartney music, but when covered by the older singers/crooners and orchestras.
I think that that makes me a square, or is that an oblong? 😊

American and Brit music peaked in the late 50’s, 60’s, and early 70’s. The Stones were nothing more than an introduction to the stink to come. Here is some of what I love …
Abba
America
Beach Boys
Beatles
BeeGees
Billy Joel
Bob Dylan
Bobby Darin
Brothers four
And that is just A-B

I’ll spare you the rest of the alphabet. (-8

The Beatles quit after about 6 years. The Stones are still going after 60 years. "No one likes a quitter." - Gene Hackman
True, but look at how much those few short years influenced our culture and how many other musicians used their music. Country music, Classical, Jazz, Blues... You even hear their instrumentals in elevators! Their music will live on, forever!!!
