The Beatles or The Rolling Stones??

Never liked the Beatles at all .... but loved the Rolling Stones - their personalities, and music both tops for me ++++

Beach Boys #1
Stones #2
Beatles #2.1
Peter, Paul, and Mary #3

You cannot just look at Rock bands you have to include Folk Music as they competed for the same fans....

Good question. I didn't listen to either group until I was older and I have't listened to The Rolling Stones as much as the Beatle's. As far as one over the other I will go with The Beatles based on the magnitude of originality in their psychedelic years.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

I listened to some of Sticky Fingers earlier this week, so today, I'd say the Stones.

Next week, it might be The Beatles.

Sticky Fingers was probably my favorite Stones album. I must agree with you there.

Which band was better? I think it's like the old cola wars- Coke vs. Pepsi. To most people, they were about the same, but to cola/music lovers, there's a world of difference. The Beatles began with generic love songs, but evolved into a much more sophisticated type of music. The Stones stayed pretty much in the same genre of music. Both created great music. The bands are both my favorites. I guess it's which band's song is playing, which is my favorite.

Well, if we're talking about musical merits, I'd have to go with the Beatles. When they began, uh, experimenting, they incorporated into their music, and it evolved.

The Stones were always a blues based rock band, and other than some country dabblings, never really strayed from their origins.

For me, it's what I'm in the mood for between those two groups.
Like the structured, studio sounds on Sgt. Peppers and the White Album.
Like the raw, driving sounds from '12 by 5' and 'Sticky Fingers'.

Both groups influenced my music and will always be among my playlists.
(Kind of like my love for the Grateful Dead and Jethro Tull; different, but
the same in many ways)

If I had to pick - the Stones.

But I might be the only Brit who can do without both. Despite having an extensive music collection, I don't have any Beatles recordings. I do own one Rolling Stones - the Some Girls album. Miss You is so awesome.

I was into Soul and R&B, but liked the Beatles in my teens .. appreciated The Rolling Stones later on.

Pretty much the same here. I was in 6th grade when the Beatles made a big splash in the US but I hated the first two things I heard from them "I want to hold your hand" and "She was just 17". (Don't recall actual titles that well.). But within a couple years of middle school they caught my ear and as I started working part time jobs I collected all their albums. But the first two 45's I bought were the Stones' 'Jumping Jack Flash' and 'The Letter' (by the Box Tops). Now I'm not particularly keen on either group but the Stones were always more danceable.

'Stones for me. Paint it Black caught my ear and kinda stuck with me through the years. It was theme song for 'Tour of Duty' Vietnam TV series which was a good fit for it.

Cancer took my Linda in December 2009. Come December 2010, I blacked out the entire calendar month of December. Remember then the lyrics of 'Paint it Black' coming back to haunt me.

Was in Denver when the Beatles came to concert-early/mid '60s as I recall. Rented a garage for my motorcycle and off-base hang-out not far from Stapleton Airfield where they landed and did a parade down Colfax Avenue. Garage was on Colfax across the street from the drug store my (then) girlfriend worked at. Because of the crowds, parade and blocked off streets, couldn't get across to see her that day. Have always held that against the Beatles. o_O j/k.

Both groups had a lasting effect and influence on entertainment. Demonstrable staying power if nothing else.
