It's funny that after my grandpa died my parents found money hidden all over the place, and since they talked about it at home you would have thought they wouldn't do it themselves, but when my mom was dying she told my brother to tell me that she had money hidden. I put a safe in the hall closet, it's big enough for my rifle and shotguns,etc. plus has shelves for handguns and documents. I put DW's jewelry box in there as well. The safe is bolted to the back wall and floor, so no burglar in their right mind would listen to the burglar alarm's ear-busting shriek, and attempt to break in to the safe.

My son works in retirement villages as a painter. When someone passes away different trades come into the rooms and strip them and redecorate them. He rang me one day to say he removed all the paper lining on the kitchen shelves and discovered lots of cash, amounting to hundreds of dollars. I told him to count it all out, put it into an envelope and hand it in to the office

Maybe they can take this ten year old desktop? Or the fifteen year old dumb TV? The very old original Nook tablet has a broken screen. The 12 year old Kindle Fire might make a thief happy.

Lately it's been closer to the low end as I try to pay off Dr. bills and such so I can retire someday.

No need to have cash in our home. An ATM inside the bank two blocks from where we live that has no withdrawal fees is probably as safe as it needs to be. Of course with drawing during daylight hours is a given.

Burglars search in underwear drawers, as many people use them to hide money.
Perhaps a box with unwashed stinky underwear might be better
