The BIG Day.......Tomorrow, Valentine's Day

Yes, literally thousands upon thousands of dollars are spent. Some pretty expensive gifts, including diamond jewelry. Pounds and pounds of chocolate candy. Stuffed/Plush toys. Valentine's Day cards. Breakfast-lunch-dinner out. Oh, can't forget FLOWERS! Actually, I think, other than Mother's Day, Valentine's Day is the most popular day for giving flowers.......red roses, pink roses and more red and pink roses!

Wife and I have decided not to buy each other a Valentine's Day card. Just send a free online one to each other. Gifts/Plush toys, not this year. Will get the Stuffed/Plush toys out that I gave her in previous years and line up on a shelf in the living room. Some are really cute, like her Tweety Bird who talks and her Valentine's Day Dog who sings and moves it's ears.

So, what will we do for the day...........EAT!! Breakfast: Eggs Benedict w/a Bloody Mary. And, then there will be dinner.

I know what some of you think of Valentine's Day.......HUMBUG, right? Well, all I can say is, "to each their own".

If you are going to celebrate the day, how? Giving that "Loved One" a special gift, flowers, card, yummy chocolates? OR, buying something for yourself, like I did when I was single/divorced and not seeing anyone?

Yep, money, money, money and spending, spending, spending. That's what today's younger society loves to do.

I was shopping for a birthday card for our daughter yesterday and decided to pick up a Valentine`s card for hubby. Found a nice one, turned it around and saw the price-$8.99!! Love him to death but not $8.99 for a card`s much LOL! I thought it was bad that some are running 4.99 and 5.99 now-but 8.99?? That`s just crazy!

We also don't celebrate it anymore, like QS, every day is Valentine's Day by us, we don't need a special date to do something nice for each other, or express our love. :love_heart:

Ok........but it's such a GREAT day!! All the candy and packed restaurants with couples who love each other. All of these couples smiling and having such a good time! It's a day for couples to show how much they love each other..........AND, one thing this world REALLY needs much more of is LOVE, right?
Sure we shouldn't need a "special" day to show our spouse or partner how much we love them, but it is there and the media/commercials certainly won't let us forget that it's there.

So........pucker up and/or spread those arms for that big kiss and/or hug that everyone wants that day.

Sorry, just that ROMANTIC thing that comes out in me. My wife loves it!

When I met my wife she told me she didn't believe in Valentine's Say or cards, so, of course, I didn't get her one.

No doubt as you've already guessed, come Valentines' Day I received a card from her!

I started learning about women about then! I'm still learning.

(I've still got the card, add reseed to "The Blonde Hunk"!)

I think you mean MILLIONS,Im surprise they (stores) don't have a black Friday too.

It really depends on the persons involved doesn't it? Some folks don't pay it any mind and to other folks, verrrry important. I'm one who would rather pay it no mind although I will make my husband his favourite dinner but that's for him, not me.

My daughter told me she's going out on her first Valentine date ever and she was so thrilled. She was married for ten years, thought her ex would learn that Valentine's Day is important to her and respond appropriately in time..........and the Valentine's Day date is with somebody she just met at the gym! So there, an example of a woman to whom it's important.

(Missing out on ten+ years of Valentines Day is only one symptom by the way, of a broken relationship lest anyone think I raised a truly shallow girl)

LOL, Bullie, or maybe a new chew bone.

Well, I got a nice surprise this afternoon....roses from my kids...somebody out there loves me.....or they may just want me to babysit soon..lol

Almost 42 years of marriage to the same wonderful woman and I think that occasions like 'Valentines day' are just an excuse to rip people off. You can tell your partner that you love them any and every day of the year, you can buy roses when the price hasn't been doubled overnight and you can go for a nice meal whenever the restaurants aren't crowded and charging the earth for a 'special' menu.
I'm cooking sticky pork ribs, coleslaw and jacket potato this evening. Might have a beer later.
