The Curse of Updates.

This may be the question of the day.
One of the most recent updates from Microsoft changed the way File Explorer sorts folders and files. Previously one could choose from a variety of sorts (alphabetical, by date, by type, Etc.) For reasons unknown MS changed it to sort by day and time and removed the ability to custom sort. At first I thought I had inadvertently changed a setting but after hours of work I finally found that this was an intentional change from MS included in a recent update. It seems as though they decided they know best how we should view our files. It took a while but I finally found a program called "WinSetView" that was able to restore the ability to sort files. I can't think of any plausible reason for changes like this.
I had not noticed this but I wonder if I haven't put in that update yet since I have automatic turned off and only do them manually and I don't remember to do that until something stops working because I haven't which is fine with me because, again, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

I do do periodic protection scans and that is what usually causes me to update. Looked and mine are still alphabetical. When I'm forced to update, due to you have to continually update virus protection to protect against the latest worms, viruses, etc. going around, that will probably get me.

Ugh. I tend to put things I know I'll be using a lot into a new folder but that means that will bury due to date. No more keeping something I want at the top by simply naming it a.

Some web-based services, such as Youtube, may still be accessible to you using a standard web-browser. That said, many services also have minimum browser requirements that cannot be met by older devices.
That's another way they extort money out of us by forcing us to buy new.

Notice that's been the case ever since they forced all TV's to go digital instead of aerial?

Over the years when I had Windows 95, 98SE, and maybe XP, there were some problems with updates, but not anymore. I have Windows 10 and have had no problems. In the update section, I'm informed that my computer can run on Windows 11, but I haven't bothered to install it. I don't think that I really need it. When I went from 8.1 to 10 on my laptop, it was slow as hell, so I junked it. I didn't really need a laptop anyways.
Windows 11 is way faster than Windows 10 which was horribly slower than 8.1. Yes, I'm still urging the grandson to update from 10.

It's fairly basic, but I understand if it's beyond your comfort level, not everyone can adapt easily.

Also, when you first click on the addon, there's a BIG POWER BUTTON. You can then turn off Ublock for that site.

Oh, and also - are you kidding me? That's way too complicated. I am not IT.
I thought it fairly simple, but I understand if it's beyond your comfort level.

It was on my laptop that it blocked DIscord. I hate apps and avoid them like the plague. I go to the websites wherever it's allowed and Discord allows.

This is just plain too much work and far too confusing so, yes, it's outside my comfort level.

I would try asking your grandson for more assistance, he might be able to help you figure it out.

And, I would gently add, it might behoove some to learn a bit more about how things work. And, where something is confusing, there are always search engines (Google, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, etc.) which can be used to find answers and explanations.

Why should I tho? If they want to be used, they need to be more user friendly. If not, meh, I'll pass. I am not up for anything I don't understand myself. If my grandson or my daughter have to set it up for me, I'm not going to use it. Plain and simple.

It's always possible to learn something new, no? Otherwise, do as you will.

I’ve recently undated my iPad / Apple Watch and phone and just yesterday I noticed one of my Heath apps has changed for the worse ….,grrrr :oops: my usual app on my watch I use has changed to all elite types of sports and they have dropped the simple “outdoor walk” selection but something came up to select other types of activities
so I’ll look at it latter ( the outdoor walk use to be in the top of the list ) prob cause that’s what I used all the time
and other things like the selection watch faces has changed as well for younger generation selections like rainbows and others I won’t bother wasting my time chatting about.

In general I hate all technology that doesn't work without constant problem solving and don't want anything new unless it does something spectacularly better than however I'm already doing it. Updates aren't improvements, they just make it harder to access whatever I used to know how to do.
