The dark side, my wife says

Mr. Ed

Be what you is not what you what you ain’t
Location
Central NY
Yesterday my wife said that I and my two daughters have a likening for the dark based on movies and tv shows we enjoy watching. I replied not having an answer to her statement.
In retrospect I enjoy dark movies and tv show mystery, suspense thrillers, including the supernatural, witches, magic, fantasy, horror movies & tv shows.

I cannot explain why I engage my attention to movies and tv shows like these, nonetheless I am intrigued by them. I draw the line, however, in matters of slasher/cannibalism and Satanism.

Good vs evil and underdog movies are my favorite. Political thrillers/corruption are also top of my much see list. I like action movies, fight scenes, guns blaring and twisted humor. None of which my wife appreciates nor engage in for long periods of time. We Both agree certain movies & tv shows are distasteful and brazenly objective, to each their own I suppose.

I think a certain amount diversity in a marriage is healthy and beneficial as in the skills and talents we share. However, I do not foresee my wife and I watching a Stevan Seagal movie together, nor am I interested in watching certain Hallmark movies with her. It’s a good thing to be different.

My o/h and I are very different also in our tastes of Movies, TV and Literature..

I'm with your wife... I wouldn't want to watch any Satanic movies or anything similar (neither would my o/h he's into Sci-fi which I'm not)... I still get nightmares if I was the Birds by Hitchcock..:ROFLMAO:

For the record I don’t watch satanic movies either

I enjoy "dark" things myself, but also draw the line at "slasher" and "gross-out" flicks. I read and enjoy horror literature, but most of it is psychological or suspenseful rather than graphic. Horror, as Stephen King observed, is a sublime emotion, and hard to do well.

Steven Segal movies, and Hallmark, are two reasons I watch little TV

Now, gimme a good movie.....like Tombstone, and I'm makin' popcorn
My lady pops that in after a half dozen or so of her movies
It's good I have books

I'm with you @Mr. Ed....if I don't watch at least one tv show mystery/crime, suspense thrillers, including the supernatural, witches, magic, fantasy each day, I feel like I'm missing something....my intrigue and mystery solving has to be satisfied on a daily basis, lol....

One of my sons enjoys stuff like Steven King but I avoid horror, occult, suspense thrillers Like the plague. (Tbh, not a big fan of hallmark either lol... too saccrine). I *used* to enjoy murder mystery series but it seems like they have to bring in a lot of additional ‘dark/twisted’ stuff so I’m off those now. Oh for Agatha Christie/Dorothy Sayer with a nice, ‘tidy’ corpse and the intellectual process if figuring out WhoDunIt 🤓

You can find all those mysteries and more on Britbox and Acorn TV -- subscription services I use through my Roku box.

1975 'Rollerball,' a SF filme with James Cann (the original, not the remake) no monsters, no supernatural critters, just human beings without
values, living a meaningless existence
The minions kept in check by providing them with brutal entertainment (much like the Roman Arena).

I prefer movies I can learn from, mostly historical or literary but I have also learned from serial killer and satan movies. As long as I'm learning something, that's what I enjoy. I dislike violence and gore for the sake of shock effect and try to avoid those kinds of films.

What does "o/h" mean? (I googled it and all I came up with is Ohio and overhead.)

I enjoy murder mystery shows alot. I loved Criminal Minds and shows like that. My Husband enjoys watching Political shows and shows like Pickers. When he wants to watch some shows I just go on the computer to enjoy myself. He will watch some of my shows but often falls asleep while they are on.

Slapshot or is it Slapstick with Paul Newman and the Hansen brothers is one of my faves

Netflix, Designated Survivor and Nikita. I like Historical Fantasy like A Discovery of Witches book #1 of the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness.
I remember as a kid watching monster movies on the Big Movie Shocker, hosted by Bestoink Dooley aka George Ellis who was primarily responsible for introducing a certain generation of Southerners with the big screen horror canon in the 1960s. The invention of local actor George Ellis, Dooley wore something like a magicians uniform, complete with bowler hat and a flower on his lapel.

Big Movie Shocker aired Friday nights at 11:30pm on WAGA-TV Channel 5; Dooley showed The Mummy and Cat People, The Wolf Man, and The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.
