The Eagles at Big Bear are tending new eggs.

I was told by a nature conservationist that the eaglets will flap their wings to exercise them and build muscle. At some point, they may start jumping a bit while flapping their wings in preparation for when they take their first flight. Won't that be something?

It will, indeed.

When we flew out in the western part of the country, we were alerted to where main bald Eagle nesting areas were located, so we could take precautions in an attempt to avoid them. Eagles are federally protected, so we had to respect their main nesting areas that were provided by Bald Eagle Protection Programs. That included both Bald and Golden Eagles.

This morning, Sunny, one of the eaglets took flight. She may or may not return to the nest. Her sister Gizmo watched. I missed it but found a clip of the exciting event on my phone. I don't know how to share it but it was Fox 11 out of LA.

It’s on YouTube.

Yes, the two eaglets, Sunny and Gizmo, on Big Bear Mountain are believed to be female, making them sisters. Experts determined their sex after months of speculation, according to FOX 26 Houston. The determination was based on vocal frequency analysis and observation, according to Yahoo News.

Thanks for the info. A friend said that Sunny was on a limb nearby today. When I checked in I thought the screen had frozen. Gizmo and one of the adults were sitting as still as statues looking off into the distance. Finally one of them shifted a little letting me know it was live.

There is another thread about the Big Bear eagles. Dave3 has posted that Gizmo fledged this morning! She looks a bit clumsy but practice will help. He has the Youtube video up.

I followed them last year and I intend to follow them this year.
I still think of Gizmo when he fell out of the tree and very quickly learned how to fly.
Sunny was the larger chick and flew first.

We watched the eagles last year and started watching them last month when they were preparing their nest.
Very interesting to watch the babies after the food is delivered.

Is it proper to say, "Contratulations," to a lady eagle who lays an egg? Our prayers are with you Jackie. May you have many children who will grow strong and fly high.
