William Cody (aka Buffalo Bill) is said to have killed 4,282 buffalo in just 18 months, during 1867-1868. He was supplying meat to the army. Cody and another hunter, Bill Comstock, had an 8 hour buffalo killing contest, to see who can have the nickname, Buffalo Bill. Cody won 68-48. 116 buffalo were killed that day, in just 8 hours.
