Oh, boy, this thread has cheered me up! 
I have a funny (well, I think it's funny) anecdote to share that you all may appreciate. A few years ago, I was chatting with my older daughter about her new job. She mentioned that one male coworker didn't seem very friendly and usually would not meet her eyes when they passed in the hallways. I said, "Well, maybe he thinks you're cute, and he's just shy!" She replied, "Ew—he's old! He's, like, 40!" Then she saw my face and quickly tried to politely backtrack. I told her "Nice try!" We still laugh about it.
