He was one of the best!
I saw him at the Landmark Theater in Syracuse in the 1980's. I had never heard the F word used so many times in one evening. There were some souvenir tee shirts on sale. I didn't buy since they were rather obscene. One tee shirt had the F. U. phrase on it. I thought to myself, "Where the hell would I wear a shirt like that?" The public address announcer, before George Carlin came on stage, read to the audience everything that was on the 4 tee shirts. Just hearing him say the F.U. phrase through the intercom, made me laugh myself silly.

I don't mind the FU, in moderation. That's why I liked his earlier routines the best.

The last album that I heard from him just made me sad. It seemed like he ran out of funny commentary, and just relied on the FU to make people laugh.

I prefer to remember his earlier work and how truly funny he was!
