The Homemade Irish Submarine 1978

Bob Wellings reports from the picturesque village of Corofin in County Clare, where local inventor and resident engineering genius James Tierney has built his own submarine - the only one in all of Ireland - out of some oil barrels. Mr Tierney's stated intention is to pilot this home-made craft to the bottom of Loch Inchiquin and spend the whole night on the lake bed. There's just one problem - nobody has ever seen the vessel submerge...

Could it be that the twinkly-eyed James Tierney is having a bit of mischievous fun at the expense of the BBC and - worse still - the regulars at the local pub?
