The horror and outrage

We live on 18 acres of Missouri forest. We have plenty of wild critters too. We have noticed that there has been a large decrease of birds, frogs, and insects. We use to have beavers when the creek ran year round, but it dries up every year now. The climate here has changed dramatically, and the wild life is paying the price. BUT, we walk in our forest most everyday and thoroughly enjoy it. We want our grandchildren to be able to enjoy the wonders of nature. Sometimes we wonder if it is going to be possible with such drastic climate change everywhere. It has become something we will say "Enjoy it while you can".

It's interesting how this thread morphed from the original concept of rejecting the horror & outrage provoking social media and slanted news, into like an outdoor and travel thread. That's OK, the thread has become a nice collection of beautiful, relaxing and serene photos. Keep 'em coming!

Circa 1987..Niokolo-Koba National Park, Senegal.
We were the only people at the lodge.....drove from Dakar in a rental car.....encountered log bridge of unknown stability.....I disembarked to lighten the load....told my late wife to boot it across and I'd walk over:

Sorry about that...I was looking for somewhere to dump these pics, and at the start of page one it seemed like a good place......mea culpa.

Île de la Réunion, off Madagascar.....mid/late 1980s.

We had taken a helicopter ride over the (then dormant) volcano, so decided to drive up.....approaching the sight we noticed that the rocks alongside the dirt road entrance were all whitewashed, and wondered why.

Parked the car, walked down about 80 steps on the staircase.....at the bottom big sign, en Francais, warning about sudden temperature drops/fog.

Ah, it was a hot sunny day and we didn't have far to go, so let's...

Encountered a group of returning hikers, rugged up for a trip to Baffin Island in January - they stared at us, we stared at them.

Then....the fog....whoops......it came in fast & cold.

Could barely find the stairs or the car...on the way out we acknowledged why the rocks were white.
