OK, I admit it, I never really grew up. Every year I have to watch The Nutcracker ballet on TV, or if possible, in person.
I just watched a new production of the ballet by the Russian national ballet on YouTube. Very nice performance, but one thing leaves me puzzled: it says it was first performed in July, 2020. That was right in the middle of the pandemic, with no vaccine even in sight yet! It didn't show an audience, but there was a light smattering of applause for some of the dances, which makes me think they either had a tiny audience, or maybe it was people associated with the production who were not dancers, clapping just to give it a "realistic" effect.
Or maybe in Russia, they just ignore Covid? Did anyone else see this?
