The Philosophy of Carl Sagan

I love it! Here's a thought also:

"...[A] pet peeve of mine [is] the premise in a lot of science fiction that moving the whole of humanity off planet is somehow an easier solution for saving everyone from environmental catastrophe than, you know, convincing us to move away from a fossil-fuel based economy. I'm suspicious of stories in which some massive technological fix, rather than an examination of the behavior behind the problem, solves everything. Because if we have the technology to build vast space colonies, we damn well have the know-how to heal the planet. What these fictions can't seem to imagine is us developing the will to do so."
~~from "Media Reviews" review by Carrie Vaughn of the movie Downsizing in Lightspeed Magazine, 4/1/2018 issue

Ever read The Martian Chronicles...fascinating book by Ray Bradbury. ...was also made in to a TV series..goes back a few years.
I would love to see it again. Perhaps I will check my local library

"Bradbury's message is that some types of colonization are right and others are wrong.
Trying to replicate the old civilization is wrong, but appreciating the civilization you have found is right."

IMO nothing significant will happen until all the people of the world accept this as a global problem and begin working together to find and fund a common solution.

I love Ray Bradbury. Almost met him at Comic Con but he just whizzed past me going somewhere else. I used to read him when I was about 10. Love his stories. ❤️

Carl is right. The notion we homo sapiens Earth creatures will be able to migrate into space will never happen within the next few centuries. A period in which we humans will first need to figure out how to live in sustainable harmony with its life and environments lest IMO we will go extinct as well as set back organic DNA life evolution hundreds of millions of years.

I think if Carl were alive today he would revise his estimate. I won't be here to see it, but I'm betting Mars will be colonized within the next 50 yrs, possibly sooner. Much of this is due to the infusion of corporate cash, and the ability of said enterprises to move at a much faster rate than government run agencies. I may be wrong. Someone get out the Ouija board, and let me know when we get there. Mike
