The Price of Gas Has Been Going Down (at least here in upstate New York)

AP News Sept. 19 1922
Facing tough midterms Biden releases oil from the Strategic Petroleum reserves.
I DIDN’T MAKE THAT UP IT IS A BLACK AND WHITE FACT!!!
So maybe you can quit insulting me now!

While some have been yammering about the "soaring prices of gas" on television, I've been having a great laugh. In previous months the price had been in the three seventies and three sixties. But then it went down to the three twenties and prices like $3.15 a gallon. Then last week in town it was $3.07 a gallon. I was wondering if it would dip below $3, and sure enough it did. I just put some gas in my car, and it was down to $2.97 a gallon. :D

$286. at the local Chevron.

You are arguing against your own economic well being. Why?

You don't gave any idea what using that oil did to the SPR or what risk was involved. Why are you panicked about it? (It was probably a money maker selling oil at inflated prices and then filling it back up after market weakened.)

It's outrageous that you think it would have been BETTER for Americans to pay more for fuel rather than using a tool to help the average American, especially in face of serious inflation.

Politicians are supposed to help people. Then people keep them in office because they have earned their vote.
So you think that our SPR should be used solely for influencing elections?
That is all I have to say about it because it is obvious that you have interests in trying to defend Biden’s irresponsible motives!

Your explanation still doesn’t explain why Biden drew a millions of barrels of oil from the SPR just ahead of the midterm elections.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEARCH THE WEB AND IT TELLS EXACTLY WHAT BIDEN DID AND WHY.
Here is the SPR (historical)... Weekly U.S. Ending Stocks of Crude Oil in SPR (Thousand Barrels)
It clearly show a dramatic fall, beginning at timing of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and nearing bottom, prior to that election.
Here is a chart of West Texas price per barrel, and clearly shows a jump as a result of Ukraine.
Here is the pump price history, which further indicates what was taking place.
The problem with some of your assertions, seems to be the assumption that none of these things would have happened if somebody else were in charge. It would have been the same, imho.

He helped millions of American's when they NEEDED help. And what's obvious is your political outlook makes you willing to vote against your own self interest.

Topped off the pickup yesterday with 100% (non ethanol) regular unleaded and it was $2.99 per gallon....that's the first time it's been under $3.00 in quite awhile.

Driving around, a few towns from me, the gas was $3.13 at several gas stations. Then in one area it was $2.96. But near me it was $2.67. The towns were only 10-15 miles apart. It's kind of strange that all the gas stations in one area have a price 46 cents higher than other gas stations only about 15 miles away.?????????????

Yes! Politicians are supposed to act in the interest of those who elect them and when they don’t we vote them out like we did Biden and a couple dozen more democrats!!

Yes We did vote them out! Your self interests might not be the same as those of the citizens of the United States!

I find it rather peculiar that when the price of gas goes up, businesses add a fuel surcharge to your bill for deliveries, but when the price goes down, they tend to "forget" it's there.

It would appear the price at the pump has largely stabilized and is forecast to remain in a narrow range, for now... a nickel either way, imo.

I asked Bing about gas station profits. 1% per gallon is the average. So 3 to 7 cents per gallon. So it seems that the suppliers drive the fluctuations.

The stuff they sell inside the store is high profit.

I do the accounting for my son and me. I urge him to use our shared credit cards to he can take advantage of cashback rewards and keep a spreadsheet of his charges. Over the past few months I've noticed that his gas purchases have gone down from around $60 per pump visit to between $44 - $48. He usually only goes to a gas station once a week, unless he's taking a trip. He also has stopped going to Costco for gas, which surprised me.

Wish it was as cheap here as it is in the US. The average price for unleaded here is £1.36 Per litre... ( 3.78 litres in a US gallon .. one gallon costs approx $5.16 US)

4.56 litres in a UK Gallon... so the cost of a Gallon for us is £6.20
The UK has a tax on all purchases except essentials like food, called VAT. Value Added Tax. That tax currently stands at 20%.
In our country fuel has an additional tax: Fuel Tax. Here's why filling our cars is so expensive:
VAT is applied after fuel duty, the pump price of a litre of petrol currently reflects the pre-tax price plus 52.95p for fuel duty plus 20 per cent VAT. A tax on a tax, adding a further 10.59p.

Have I lost you? What all that simply means is, we pay 64 pence tax per litre of fuel. there's 3.8 litres in a US gallon, so that means we pay £2.43 in tax per gallon, or, $2.99 if we paid in US dollars. Now you know why our fuel was changed to litres, it looks cheaper.
