The Removing Of Statues

Just got asked by a female friend "how many statues of hero women are there in America"? I had no response. Anyone know?

Well, I understood it. The removal & requests to remove various and associated demonstrations have a brought a lot of different thoughts to mind, and wondering about female statues certainly follows, to my mind. There sure is one big woman statue in NY harbor, and I know there are some of women in the us military in their more recent roles, as well some pioneer women in the west. But The whole “pioneer” thing has gotten controversial.

Some of them have been moved to various places. Some are in the Smithsonian. The fearless girl was either going to be moved to wall street or they wanted her to be moved. Maybe that's what he's referring to.

Oprah? Seriously? She's not a hero is she? All she does is get pd to talk. Hell any one of us could do that.

Oprah, ha ha ha, lol. And everybody believing her private giveaways on her show, only she didn't let on that her production company footed the bill for that stuff and she would write it off as donations from her private coffers. Can't say I blame her since everybody else in the industry was and still is pulling that con.

That I know nothing about.

Lets start a new thread "Women who deserve more recognition" or something to that effect. I learned an awful lot from the recent thread focused on the contributions of black citizens.

My personal education would be improved if we did something like this for women. Right off the bat, I would mention Admiral Gracie Hopper who is one of my personal heroes.

It's my understanding that "give aways" on television shows such as Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneris are usually"promos" provided by the manufacturers. Any tax benefits would go to the manufacturer, not to the television show.

Me too, Pecos. When I became a computer programmer, I was delighted to find out that the language I was learning, COBOL, had been invented by her.
In thinking about it a bit, I would be honored to kick it off and will start it with Admiral Hopper.

My wife tells me that it is very appropriate that a thread honoring women should be started by a man.
(Does she have me trained or what? LOL)

Please be sure to help me out in getting this going. I may be over my head here.

That is true. When Oprah "gave away" the cars, they were donated by General Motors.

Wrong.

Read this and know this. When one receives a gift it's subject to have a gift tax attached that the receiver is responsible for. When one receives a donation the receiver should not have to pay anything for such donation which nobody considered when they attempted to claim their donation.

Well I never

Now how could that not be considered a scam?

I couldn't care less that a bunch of screaming idiots had to pay tax on their "free" car. I stand by my post that OPRAH did not gift the cars; they cost her nothing. And I believe the tax benefit @raybar was referring to is the write-off for charitable donations, not the income tax the recipients had to pay.
