The smell of cooking...

Bacon, bacon and more bacon !!

With kidney problems, Im not supposed to eat it, but there are so many cafes and fast food takeaways it makes my mouth water when I walk through town in the morning, the smell in the air down every street and turning...

Every time I make supper, and my wife walks in the door from work, she always comments about how good the place smells of whatever I'm cooking. Chicken frying, potatoes frying are her favorites.

Bacon cooking smells good also, but the odor afterwards, stays in our apartment way to long. Have to constantly use a spray deodorizer to get the smell out. One time we made some kind of shrimp pot and the odor was ridiculously bad afterwards. The shrimp tasted descent, but would rather have that kind of meal, if we even eat that kind of meal ever again, cooked at a restaurant. We simply aren't a Southern/seafood couple that much at all.

What is your favourite thing to smell when cooking?

Bacon

Bread (does baking count?)

We had to memorize this in school:

WHY is it that the poet tells
So little of the sense of smell?
These are the odors I love well:

The smell of coffee freshly ground;
Or rich plum pudding, holly crowned;
Or onions fried and deeply browned.

The fragrance of a fumy pipe;
The smell of apples, newly ripe;
And printer's ink on leaden type.

Woods by moonlight in September
Breathe most sweet, and I remember
Many a smoky camp-fire ember.

Camphor, turpentine, and tea,
The balsam of a Christmas tree,
These are whiffs of gramarye. . .
A ship smells best of all to me!

I love the smell of sauteing onions, bell peppers, and garlic which is the base for a lot of recipes.

Most things baking smell heavenly. Especially my mother's sour cream coffee cake.

And of course... bacon. :D

Hahaha IKE & RaddishRose! That was so comical.
Bacon cologne and bacon wrapped chicken.

I love the smell of bacon with pancakes or waffles. :drool:

Banana bread or gingerbreads
