The summer of love

Oh dear, puddling up here…so sweet…and full of daisies. Now I love this thread.

Oh lol. I remember daisies. Did you ever paint one on your cheekbone with makeup like the Yardley models did??? I loved that look.

I was 16, working as a dishwasher in a fancy restaurant, saving my money and counting the days until I could escape to California. I was also learning some new things in the back seat of a Chevy Impala. Night moves.

I didn't realize 67 was the summer of love. I do remember up in Oregon it was an especially hot summer and we went 51 days without rain! I was pregnant and very uncomfortable. Our second child, a boy, was born in October. :) That was the summer I met my best girlfriend and we are still besties, even though she lives in TX and I'm in CA.

Spent the Summer of Love in a hip to toe leg cast from a motorcycle wreck a couple of days before summer began. Hubby (then my fiancé) had just left for Boot Camp so I was stuck hanging out with his best buddy and sister for the summer. We would go up to the Haight Ashbury most Friday nights and hang out (we lived only 20 minutes away). Many of my friends spent the entire summer there, then came back to school for senior year very changed-mostly from drugs. We would really only go to people-watch-I was on crutches so couldn`t really go walking around. Still have good memories from that time though-got married 6 months later,so that was my last "carefree" summer. By the next summer,I was 6 months pregnant....

The first time I visited Cali - 1994 - I was asked what I wanted to see first in San Francisco. I said Haight Ashbury!

" I remember daisies"

So do I but not in 67.

I was on guard duty somewhere near Salisbury Plain and a peace lover placed one in the muzzle of my gun.

I smiled and said "Peace brother" , he offered me a puff of his cigarette, which I declined as it smelled very strange.

They shared our tea urn for a couple of days and then drifted off.

All very civilized!

That's pretty awesome meeting a life long friend during the Summer of Love. Makes it all more memorable for you for sure.

I spent the summer of 1967 bumming around Europe. My sister and I had 3-month 2nd-class Eurail passes and a Europe on Five Dollars a Day guide. It was an unbridled sybaritic day if we had to spend $5 for the two of us, neverless $5 apiece. We did a lot of sleeping on night trains and in fifty-cent youth hostel beds. Food was cheap if you knew where to go. I can't say I saw a lot of "Summer of Love" there but I did see my first topless sunbather and guy with loooong hair. I bought an itsy-bitsy bikini in Paris, which almost got me arrested in Portugal, which was definitely NOT experiencing a summer of love.
