The Talk, about the birds and bees.

LadyEmeraude

You may call me EM 😊
Some of us learned about it from parental talks, others through school, or friends and via other avenues, or through reading books.
Sorry if repeat topic, because honestly, I can't remember about this one, only been a member for two months ...

Through reading "Lady Chatterley's Lover" in 7th grade. Kudos to my mother though, she always wanted to talk about it. I only did if I had a specific question. When I was little, my mother would say "Daddy planted a seed" and the picture in my head was him dressed as a farmer with a hoe. A hoe. That's funny.

I was first enlightened by my mother at the age of 9 best I remember.
She sat me down and explained a few specific things, then she shared
with me an easy-to-read book, further explaining some kind basics...

Hoe, hoe, hoe, heh, heh, heh. 😊

Did you ever have dial up internet? Remember how slow it was, the screen took forever to load. When we had ours I told my wife that I would find some dance event for us to attend. We love the swingtime music from the Bigband era. I typed swing into the search box.

Are you ahead of me? Slowly, slowly, the screen filled with graphic images of copulating couples. I could have died. But my darling sweetheart made a great joke of it. She bent sideways until her head was level with her waist and, looking at the screen she said:
"See, I told you that position was possible!"

I learned over lunch when I was 11.The class clown decided to shock and enlighten all the girls. To my horror mom confirmed the story after school.

I got a sort of "talk" from my parents. Quite uninformative. Then my best friend gave me the scoop. More informative but in most cases inaccurate. Besides, I didn't believe it. My parents wouldn't have done "that"! They must have gotten all those babies some other way.....

Then we had the formal "sex talk" during Freshman year in high school. Scared the beejeezzuts out of me. The gym teacher essentially told us that boys were raving sex maniacs and it was up to us to keep things in control. AND we got to watch a movie about venereal disease. Right before lunch, too. I couldn't look a boy in the eye for three months.

A little boy comes home from school and asks his Mom, "What is sex?"

She had known that the question would be coming, but had hoped she had a few more years before she had to explain. She had read articles about how to properly explain it to children, so she sat him down, brought out the books for him to read, and explains things to him, being careful to use the proper terms. After she has finished, she asks him if he had any questions.

"Yeah", he said, pulling the form for registration for Little League' Baseball out of his pocket and pointing to the line that said 'SEX', "How am I going to get all THAT in this little box?"

Nope, no parental "talk". Just a classmate, Jeffery when I was 11. The only parental talk was when I was leaving for my high school prom. As I was walking out the door, my mom said, "If you get her pregnant, don't come crying to us about it". I did have a motel room reserved, with some beer on ice. But I didn't have to worry about it. My date told me that she was just accepted into the convent as a Catholic nun.
