The Ten most dangerous cities in the US for 2023 have been revealed

I disagree with that list.
There are indications that it should at least be suspect. The format of the original article (maybe it was original format) that I read a month ago was in what I call "click bait format." You were forced to continually click to see the next city on the list, thereby building up a certain amount of suspense as you were exposed to ads. Then when my Chicago friend sent me data that was contrary to the article, I had to wonder if the information gathered followed the strict rules of avoiding bias. But the format and purpose of the article (to sell ads) is what made me most suspicious.

Having said all that, it was a fun read, whether the information was correct or not.

Don't blame statistics. Statistics are just data, but people who don't like what they say often lie about what statistics tell us. And of course poor methodology or fraudulent methodology will produce false information. Garbage in--- Garbage out.
When I see political polls, I dig into them deeply.
I find the source, then painstakingly go through not only the data but the way the polls were created.
There are so many flaws based on what they wanted the outcome to be.
The favorite one that pollsters use is the 'margin of error'. They take the margin of error and skew in the direction they want. If you take the opposite and skew the margin of error, the poll is totally different.

Other ploys include:
1) The number of people being polled. Many times they poll 100 people, or 1000 people. I've seen as low as 95 people. They then make that appear thats its a reflection of the whole country, when really most times its a small neighborhood in a small town.
2) The breakdown of geographic. Urban people tend to be more Liberal in their views, again, skewing the numbers. The cross section of people being polled is not very robust and tend to be what they want the outcome to be.
3) Percentages of women or minorities higher, again skewing the numbers.
4) How the questions are delivered. If there is negativity in the question, they tend to get agreement.

There are many other ploys they use and they bury them deep in the explanation of the poll. Many times at the end of an 80,90,100 page document.

Interstates thru burbs and Cities are still the most dangerous place to be. People on their Cells and Drivers doing 80-85 in 60 mph traffic. .... The perpetual traffic warnings of accidents ahead mostly prove that Theory. ...Then you have the Habitual Red Light / stop sign Runner on the Side Streets...They will literally run up onto the Sidewalks to get around traffic stopped, have witnessed it .... It's a crazy world we have....Sure some of those red lights seem stuck to them.... It sure sux to be at the wrong places at the wrong times. Sure anything a Fellon can easily grab he a gonna take especially from a person alone.

But you know the Gas stations lock your Chipped cards in the pump, want a pin #, won't print a receipt etc. To me the ones to avoid are where there is nearby construction and Heavy Traffic to and from.

Have you ever stopped at a Mart and the key to the Restrooms are on large Crescent / Pipe Wrenches. avoid!

Just one more example of inequality in the US.
Murder inequality is adding to the list of inequalities that are shining the light on what is happening in the US.
Murder inequality, Crime inequality, need to be addressed.
Until we strive for equality in all areas we will never be fair to all citizens. We need more murders, more crime, to make everyone to feel equal, comfortable, pacify the most downtrodden of our citizens.
(ok, before you start putting fingers to keyboard, I am being facetious)
thank you for the laugh .... seems like some are actually trying to spread the crime around so we can all suffer

The worlds most dangerous cities...

I used to take the train to downtown and then the bus to the university (school) or the clinic (work) for several years. I learned to read the signs and the people. I learned to dress a certain way not to attract attention. Even at the clinic, where I worked, they gave us an orientation about how to protect ourselves. I remember eye contact was important (letting them know that we see them) and making sure to keep valuables hidden (trunk).
:) Wow, I personally would NOT make eye contact, but of course the pros would know better than I. Nevertheless, *I* would not..

I would avoid eye contact also, and I have to work to do it. I accidentally made eye contact with a guy in Oakland, CA. It was on a bus. I had no reason to believe he was a thief, mugger, or gang member, but his reaction was not friendly. I looked away, and that was that. But I'm a country boy. The only thing I know is don't make eye contact with a bear, or more specifically, if they make eye contact with you, RUN!

I find it very hard to believe that Baltimore, MD. didn't make the list. It's known for being riddled with crime. Many years ago, my husband was there trying to connect with his son and he called me. In the background I heard "Pop..pop, pop, pop" I said please tell me that's not gunshots. That exactly what they were!

I see some overlap between the most dangerous and the poorest cities.

These Are the 10 Poorest Cities in the United States:
  • Pharr, Texas.
  • Jackson, Mississippi.
  • Cleveland, Ohio.
  • San Marcos, Texas.
  • Detroit, Michigan.
  • Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Greenville, North Carolina.
  • Flint, Michigan.

if that's the case Diva, then you can only imagine that those listed are even worse..

I lived and worked in Detroit many years ago. The only time I thought I was getting mugged, it turned out to be a policeman.

I was getting ready to step off a curb and cross the street against the light....illegally...and someone grabbed my purse shoulder strap and gave a hard jerk.

Time stopped. OMG, I was getting mugged! I felt like I was turning around in slow motion and I was ready to start punching and fighting. Luckily, I didn't. It was a police officer that had grabbed the strap to prevent me from crossing the street.

Whew.

Stay aware of your surroundings is maybe the best offer of how to cope. Not all of us can be CCL'ed. That's Concealed Carry Licensed to self-defense of ourselves. Still avoid bad situations is a good call but Shit happens with little, or no warning and you got to defend. Sure, just walk away, hand them your wallet thas a live for another day plan if you can. Things can be replaced, they know that. a Shiv in your liver can't be fixed after maybe an hour. The point is its your personal area of self-defense, use it.

Hopefully all of us can look at things with comical laughter /disposition all of it and walk away with a good feeling for the day!
