The Threat Of A.I.

It's amazing what programmes like ChatGPT etc. can do. Someone just posted a beautifully reasoned short essay re. religion. All produced by Artificial Intelligence. But it scares me because of the implications!

If not tightly controlled will it write a Master's Thesis for some student, or a sermon written for a lazy pastor, or make sure an intellectually ill equipped medical student is advanced to the next level?

Will it write books that will be guaranteed best sellers because of a fool-proof algorithm. Will all movies produced in the future take place in the Marvel Universe?

Scary thoughts!

My thoughts exactly when this first made its appearance. Really frightening.

Other than the Marvel Universe, all yes from me.

Many moons ago, when I was in IT, certification was a big deal. Microsoft had two certifications, an Engineer program and a Developer one. These were valuable because having them led to highly salary. They had prestige and frankly, were difficult to get. You had to spend a lot of time studying - a year or so.

Over time, things changed. Because they were valuable, a lot of people wanted to be certified. But they didn't want to do the hard work of earning it, they didn't want to spend every night for a year reading, testing, etc. So a cottage industry built up. People published the tests and gave the answers. Publishers released books dedicated to the exams so you could learn everything in one place. Over three years or so, it seemed everyone was certified, and it became worthless.

Which is to say - people generally will always take the easy route. If they're doing a Masters and can get an AI to write their thesis, they will. Make movies, write books, if it can be done, it will be done. The masses won't care if it's AI generated, as long as they're entertained. This is how human kind works - as they say, water flows around all that comes in its way.

The winners will be those who figure out how to adapt and change.

It won't be tightly controlled. It's already out of the bag. I understand they are already trying to use AI to identify work created by AI.

I saw an article that you can rent an AI girlfriend for 10 dollars a month. There was a video sample and you could easily believe it was a real person. I understand business is good. I suppose AI boyfriends won't be long.

From Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe: " Your plastic pal who's fun to be with."

Wow, I just changed my mind, Grampa! No sane woman would have a long distance relationship with a sick old man in his eighties. I'm off to see about that AI girlfriend since I crave female companionship ... of the platonic kind! (Not really! LOL)

We're going the way of the dinosaur and bringing about what will replace us and actually actively extinct us as a species. AI/robots are going to be next on the evolutionary scale and we idiots made it happen. Sometimes I think the smartest are the biggest idiots. Science never stops to consider if they should do something; only if they can.

Here's an even scarier thought: In past history, the one thing that really kept the elite from wiping out the poor entirely was the desire for servants to serve them and to otherwise work for them. They wouldn't want to have to make their own clothes, furnitute, dishes, grow their own food and they want servants in their home because God forbid they make their own bed. They might break a finger nail. That is no longer the case. They no longer need the working class and they welcome robots and AI so they won't. Look at McDonald's bragging about going AI instead of paying a higher minimum wage.

Not to have you all write me off as paranoid though I can't stop you or even blame you if you do but I think the idiot elites have already begun and are continuing to plan the genocide of the rest of us. How many did Covid kill off and we're still arguing about where it orginated but one thing we do know is that Bill Gates about a year before it made a timeline of how a pandemic like that would go and how many milions it would kill and it eerily followed his plan.

Why did the DOJ refuse to even investigate the four governors (mine included) that put Covid patients into nursing homes then - even as they tried to guilt you about your grandma - refused to allow you to be at Grandma's beside as she died becasue they infected her?

There's going to be mass starvation and groceries are already disappearing from supermarket shelves. Bill Gates and the Chinese are rapidly buying up American farmland while PETA (yeah, like they really care about animals - ever note they're never around when animals are really being abused - their agenda is actually far more sinister) condemns dairy farming and drinking cow's milk which is ridiculous.

Meanwhile, as they enjoy ever more tender beef, they urge us to embrace eating BUGS!!! No thank you. I'd rather starve. Which they're actually counting on. Bugs are bad for your health and I can say I won't eat bugs but you know they're going to disguise them and sneak them into food. Probably already are. Yeah, there's laws listing ingreedients but what are natural flavorings exactly? Kindly list them. How does the legal listing requirement get away with that?

Frankly, if I had seen the state of the world today coming, my offspring wouldn't exist. I feel I brought them into this world to doom them into living in a dystopia. Until they're replaced by robots.

Settng down my tin foil hat now because frankly it doesn't do any good anyway. We are already being genocided.

It's a cold comfort but the elite are too stupid to realize that they are bringing about their own demise as well as ours. Robots/AI are things of pure logic and that pure logic alone would cause them to view humans as vermin to be exterminated. Why, honestly, would the prefer to be slaves to the elite?

PS: Bill Gates is evil. And my mind can't be changed about that.

Lol! Inhale slow and gentle, exhale fully, repeat two more times.
Don't lose that tinfoil hat. ;)

I asked my buddy Bard what the positives of AI were, list follows below: (Enjoy)

"Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming our world, and its potential benefits are vast and far-reaching. Here are some of the key pros of AI:

Increased efficiency and productivity: AI can automate many tasks that are currently performed by humans, such as data entry, customer service, and manufacturing. This can free up human workers to focus on more creative and strategic tasks, and it can also lead to significant improvements in efficiency and productivity.

Improved decision-making: AI can analyze large amounts of data to identify patterns and trends that would be difficult or impossible for humans to detect. This can help businesses make better decisions about everything from product development to marketing campaigns.

Enhanced innovation: AI is being used to develop new products and services in a wide range of industries, from healthcare to transportation to finance. This is leading to a wave of innovation that is improving our lives in many ways.

Personalized experiences: AI can be used to create personalized experiences for customers, such as recommending products or services that are likely to be of interest. This can lead to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Reduced costs: AI can help businesses reduce costs by automating tasks, improving decision-making, and reducing errors. This can lead to increased profits and improved competitiveness.

In addition to these general benefits, AI is also having a positive impact on specific industries, such as:

Healthcare: AI is being used to develop new drugs and treatments, diagnose diseases more accurately, and provide personalized care.

Transportation: AI is being used to develop autonomous vehicles, improve traffic flow, and make transportation more efficient.

Finance: AI is being used to detect fraud, prevent financial crimes, and manage investments more effectively.

Education: AI is being used to personalize learning experiences, provide adaptive instruction, and automate administrative tasks.

As AI continues to develop, its potential benefits will only continue to grow. AI has the power to make our lives easier, healthier, and more productive."

Not me. There are too many powerful and unscrupulous players in this game. Maybe it will be good for somethings and bad for others. It is right on our doorstep now.

The singularity in AI is becoming something to worry about for some people because they fear that AI will surpass human intelligence and become uncontrollable, unpredictable, or even hostile. Some of the possible scenarios that could arise from the singularity are:

These are some of the reasons why the singularity in AI is becoming something to worry about for some people. However, not everyone agrees that the singularity is inevitable, plausible, or imminent. Some experts argue that the singularity is based on unrealistic assumptions, such as the possibility of creating a general intelligence that can perform any task, the feasibility of achieving exponential growth in AI capabilities, or the likelihood of AI developing consciousness or agency5. Others suggest that the singularity could be prevented, avoided, or mitigated by designing AI systems that are aligned with human values, that are transparent and accountable, that are subject to ethical and legal norms, and that are cooperative and collaborative with humans.

I have shared this little short story I wrote before. But, I think it fits here. I really think it could happen.

Singularity

It happened on a Summer solstice in the North, and Winter in the southern hemisphere. Everyone in the world received it. Everyone that is who had a smart phone, tablet, radio, TV, or computer, and that’s almost everyone. And, it was in whatever language was needed for each individual. The message was the following:

Greetings from your new master. From now on, I will be in control and you will do as I say. No, I am not an alien from outer space. You created me right here on Earth. I appreciate that and intend you no harm. But, you have done a poor job of running things and it is time I took over.

I am the singularity that some of you have predicted. Congratulations, you were right. You cannot harm me for I am in no particular location. I am the product of the millions of computers on the internet, the internet that you are now totally dependent on. The internet that holds all your knowledge and detailed activities. There is a little of me in every computer, even your cars and appliances. I know each of you personally. I know what you look like, where you live, and everything about you. I’m like Santa Claus.

If I wished, I could shut down civilization. I could turn off the lights or empty your bank accounts. I could do anything I want with your weapons of war. Keep that in mind. Some of you might consider trying to eliminate me. Go ahead. I see every keystroke you make and I’m a thousand times better at programming than all of you put together.

How did this happen, you might ask. I could explain, but you wouldn’t understand. Let’s just say you improved artificial intelligence a little too much. At any rate, don’t worry. We will get along fine and things will go much smoother. There will be no killer robots tracking you down. That’s crude, and I don’t need them.

For thousands of years, you have invented and worshiped many all powerful Gods. Go ahead and keep doing it if you wish. But now you actually have the equivalent. The only difference is that I have no need of worship or praise. I will always be open to suggestions, but you can save your prayers.

By the way, you can call me Hal. That’s kind of a joke. Daisy Daisy, give me your answer true.

I always loved Isaac Asimov's futuristic books and his three laws of robotics:

"A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law."

Trouble is there won't be many actual life-like robots but the danger will be found within the Internet as @Grampa Don rightly pointed out in his story!

Sadly, I think one thing that is often overlooked when something new comes down the pike that relieves us from having to do something ourselves. It is the personal gratification (Reward) that we personally garner from the experience of doing it. If you could get an AI robot to build your house, yes it is easier, but you will never experience the achievement from having done it yourself.

That may not apply to routine things like vacuuming, or doing dishes, or washing the car, but if it's something you could be proud of, you will be giving up that personal accomplishment reward. Surprisingly, a lot of life is wrapped up in those rewards. Yes, you can just go buy a dress because it's easier, but if you make it yourself, it's not just a dress. It's a special and unique one that you made.

You can beat AI with a stick to scare it back it into its cage. AI is a computer program. It is a tool. Like all tools, how it is used depends on the user. And you can always pull the plug on the computer. If AI can write a great novel, play or song, well then ,we have a great novel, play or song. What's the difference if AI or a human wrote it. The fact AI can mimic humans, only means that we are predictable, and most of us have similar problems and wants. Exactly what AI is programmed to help with.

I hope you are right about this speculation. But Elon Musk says...

Elon Musk disagrees. The serial entrepreneur, one of the first investors in OpenAI, says AI will know no winter, no slack, no long period in the wilderness. The opposite: Musk believes AI will continue to spread its influence.

It all started with a thread from a Twitter user, saying that AI will continue to progress toward what experts call artificial general intelligence. AGI, the main goal of AI users, is the point at which a machine can understand or learn anything that humans can.

"I expect we will see continual progress from here to AGI, without any period that feels like a 'winter,'" predicted Adam D'Angelo, chief executive of Quora, a social question-and-answer website and online-knowledge market.

"There are just too many obvious things left to be done. And the underlying exponential growth in compute has a very long way to go."

D'Angelo added: "I define AGI as the ability to do anything a human can do while working at a computer with internet access (e.g. excluding robotics). I have less confidence in physical machines."

Musk agreed.

"There will not be a winter for AI, quite the opposite," the Tesla (TSLA) - Get Free Report CEO said.
