The Time Machine "2002" version

I think I'll watch this again. I saw it when it came out. A variation of the original story, which was hokey enough, but I'm a sucker for time travel.

I saw the newer version when it first came out. Once was enough. Now as for the original, I can't remember how many times I saw it. Always one of my favorite science fiction movies of all times.

I love the original movie. There are a lot of problems with the 2002 version.

First off, Guy Pierce can't act. That dude always seems totally aware he's on camera. There's no attempt to embody his character. His acting is high school drama-club level. It's embarrassing.

Secondly, in the original film, Dr. Hartdegen's motivation for building the Time Machine is his passion for science and research and the future of mankind, plus he's immensely curious. The 2002 Hartdegen is in it for selfish, foolish reasons, and he doesn't seem to care how his invention will effect mankind as long as his girlfriend doesn't die. So stupid.

The only thing the 2002 film did right was the machine itself - as beautiful and elegant as the original.
Guy Pierce didn't deserve the honor of sitting in it, imo.

Me too. This version is so much closer to the original story. I really loved the ending with the open question of which three books were chosen to rebuild civilisation.
