The USA Penny is going away.

The penny will be around for years. There are so many in circulation. I will always see a need for a penny.

In Canada we did away with the penny.

If the fee is $1.03 it gets rounded up to $1.05. If it's $1.02 it gets rounded down to $1.00.

I haven't missed the penny that's for sure.

So, it's finally happening. I've been hearing about doing away with the penny for years. One of my Jazzmobile teachers held a workshop in her home after Jazzmobile semester ended. She had a huge glass jar full of pennies, almost as tall as me and probably wider too. I wondered how the heck she got that thing in there or would get it out if she had to move. If I recall correctly, she lived on the second floor.

A couple of months ago, my son took me to the credit union so I could use their coin machine. I had a little more than $43 in coins. My son had cashed his out the week before and had more than I did. Since I hardly ever use cash anymore, I don't expect to add to the few pennies I have left.
