The winter solstice is tomorrow morning at 6 am in California! :)

6am tomorrow in California? Well, we may not be "doin' it right" in terms of that sort of precision, PD, but we'll be enjoying Solstice. It's a snowy point in the year up here. We'll host our annual get-together here at our place in the evening. A group of maybe a couple dozen people, most of whom know each other, and who will bring snack food, juice, wine, desserts.

It's always been an occasion bringing together Christians, Buddhists, pagans, total agnostics... used to be one Jewish woman (she's down in southern Mexico this year). Kind, helpful types all. Stories, laughs, good feelings.😁

Oops, sorry, I didn't see this Paco Dennis and I have started another
thread in the paranormal place!

Mike.

Everything's ready here. People will start showing up in about two hours. I cleared away enough snow for cars to park and for people to have a foot path to the door.

Usually people contribute quite a wide variety of finger food, wine, beer and soft drinks. There's been a fire (visible) going all day in the fireplace insert, which we all like. But we may let it go out if we have the 20 or so people we expect, as it can get uncomfortably warm in here.

A few haikus for the solstice. :)

The Longest Night
Deep blue velvet sky,
The sun bows low to the earth,
Shadows stretch and wait.

Nature’s Breath
Frost on cedar boughs,
The world holds a frozen breath,
Time stands perfectly.

The Golden Turn
The wheel slows its spin,
Darkness claims the final hour,
Light prepares to rise.

First Morning
Pale gold on the ridge,
One minute more of the sun,
Spring begins its climb.

Cycles of Grace
Let the old year go,
As the stars align once more,
Hope is born in frost.

The Eternal Flame
Inside, fires burn,
Welcoming the coming year,
Light will always find.

Well, the party worked out great! A man, a neighbor we'd never known well, arrived first. His wife had died about one year ago. He'd met DW and I on the shared road, but he met at least 14 people here that he'd never met before. That was a nice thing.

People mixed a lot, and shared some jokes, and caught up with each other. The snack food and desserts were first rate!! 😁

So this morning DW and I were greeted by this in our email inboxes, from one of our friends who was here last evening. Just as she sent it (with all its dot dot dots. A fine way to start our day.

"good morning dear friends.... well, that was quite the night of memories I must say.... the food was just yummy, the love in that house nearly sent my heart into an explosion... sometimes i cannot fathom how we were drawn to this place and could be so lucky to be included in this amazing circle of friends.... it gives my life so much joy.... so many memories, of last night and all the solstice gatherings before, that I will always treasure... and the other great treasure is truly your friendship, I hope you know it means the world to us... thank you for a most fabulous evening... we love you."
