There are a lot of planes in the air

Grampa Don

Yep, that's me
If you ever want to kill some time, check out flightradar.com. You can zoom in on any part of the world and see what's flying. If you click on a plane, it shows what kind it is, which airline, where it is coming from, and where it's going. As someone who always looks up when something flies over, I've found it fascinating. A lot of planes going over my house are headed for Las Vegas.

I like flightradar24 and look at it most days. When DD comes to visit, I watch for her flight taking off from Manchester and it takes about the same time to get here as it does for us to drive to the airport. It's also useful for checking the flight statistics for cancellations, punctuality etc..

Looking at Hollydolly's link, I see a cargo plane on my 'local' airport (Aberdeen), heading for Nottingham.

I'd be interested in the Military flight tracking (not twitter though) because Camp Lejeune flies overhead occasionally when something is up in the world. And I want to know just what the commotion is about. It's low, loud, super fast, and gets your attention!! But only lasts like a couple of days.

It happened when Iran messed with our military shortly after the attack on Israel because of our support for Israel. Sometimes it's just training but I can tell a difference. It's usually quiet as a church mouse here.

Grampa Don, there's a Satellite-Tracker app that's pretty fascinating, too. I had no idea there are so many satellites orbiting the planet until my grandson showed me. He's got that app on his phone. It labels them, too; tells you who it belongs to and what it's for.
Yes, we are polluting space just like we've polluted earth. I asked AI how many objects are now in orbit. Here is its answer.

As of November 2022, there are approximately 25,857 artificial objects in orbit around the Earth, including 5,465 operational satellites
Space debris - Wikipedia
The total number of space debris objects in Earth's orbit is estimated to be in the order of 29,000 for sizes larger than 10 cm, 670,000 for sizes larger than 1 cm, and more than 170 million for sizes larger than 1 mm
How many space debris objects are currently in orbit?
These objects include defunct satellites, rocket stages, nuts and bolts left behind by astronauts, and millions of smaller, harder-to-track objects such as flecks of paint and bits of plastic
Orbital Objects Information and Facts
The total mass of all space objects in Earth's orbit is estimated to be more than 11,000 tonnes

Do you think all this stuff is really necessary? When I first began doing some amateur astronomy I was surprised to see a satellite cross in front of my field of view of a little over half a degree. I soon discovered that this is very common.

Thanks for the very innovative and informative website. Cheers!

Both myself and daughter have bookmarked the page in our browser!

My grandson would be very interested in this. Thank you

There are approximately 8000+ planes in the air over the U.S. during the busiest part of the day. That should be about 2,000,000 passengers.

There are also way too many radio, cellphone and WiFi waves in the air all clashing into each other. It makes me wonder how they all stay so clear. Well, they don’t, but with so many different frequencies, they are able to kind of dodge one another.

There is a Christian guy who has a youtube channel and he gives reports on what is happening with the military and where troops are being moved to, as well as his opinions about what is going on, @Lara . His youtube channel is called “Monkey Werx”, and he is former military.
Here is one of his videos, so you can see if this might be the kind of information you are looking for.

Back in 1975, I was flying for Air Wisconsin. We had left Columbus and was to fly to O’Hare and then to Buffalo where we would park and stay overnight. As we were flying towards Chicago, we received a weather report that it was snowing heavy in Chicago. Our flight plan showed us landing on one of O’Hare’s shorter runways. This happened in November.

When we were about 100 miles from Chicago, we requested a longer runway, so we would have more time to slow the aircraft without having to worry about sliding. Because of the wind direction, we were denied a change of runways. I decided to come in lower and slower and that would compensate us for the short runway. My copilot asked me where did I learn that. I told him my instructor at flight school taught us to do that during bad weather and landing on short runways. This was my first time attempting it.

We touched down at about 122 mph and by the time we were able to exit the runway, we still had about 2000 feet of concrete left. It was a beautiful landing. I guess the passengers were nervous because they applauded after we turned off the runway and onto the taxiway. The Buffalo flight was delayed by almost two hours. When we finally arrived in Buffalo, they had got about a foot if snow, so they were only using two runways and that kept the ground crew busy by cleaning the runway. I think the ground crews here in the north do a great job by keeping the runways clean no matter how fast the snow comes down.

I read that most of the countries that have outdated and broken satellites out there are working on solutions for disposing of them. One of the ideas is to gather up and secure all similar bits into separate bails - bails of batteries, bails of framework, bails of circuitry, etc - and then leave these bails to orbit earth while they work out the next step.

It was estimated that the bailing alone would literally clear the air by about 40-50%.

Sounds nice, but do you foresee anybody stepping forward to pay for that? We're too busy getting ready to send more people to the moon for some reason. And all the while we keep putting more stuff up there. Maybe when the Kessler syndrome happens it will get some attention.

World travelers are our number one health problem. But remember, it's cheaper to stay on a Cruise line than to live in a Old Guy home.

Don't we always wait til we're inches from disaster?

I wonder if any of those scientists thought of dropping those old satellites on, say, the Kremlin, and pretending it was an accident.

But to answer the question, where there's a will, there's a wallet. But the will has to be there.

we are just so friggin' STUPTD!!! just think about all the damage we've done to our planet and it's enviorns since the advent of the Industrial Revolution!!! shame on us, eh?
