There will be 6 Million Flu Cases

I don't understand the drama and media coverage of COVID-19 . Yes, the flu is a serious health problem, and people may die from it. But this isn't something totally unknown. We have "flu season" each year. These outbreaks are notoriously hard to control, and they spread rapidly. But, if you have to send away a test to be read, to find out if you have the flu; then maybe your symptoms are that severe. This current flu season has millions of people sick with it, it's gone unnoticed by the media and internet.
According to some check out counter tabloids that I saw, if you get the flu, forget it 's over. It's some kind of Chinese viral weapon gone wrong. The world is coming to an end. etc. But the vast majority of those, who have had the coronavirus are still a live. All the deaths are from those , whose health is compromised.

And I'm very skeptical of these numbers from WHO. You don't have any idea of the number of infected- no one does, so it is impossible to say what is the percentage of deaths caused by the virus. The numbers WHO mentions are people, who have been admitted to a hospital. They are making huge claims, but it is studies of the sickest of the sick, who have been hospitalized , and sometimes based on only 41 patients.

There were millions of people, all over the world, who became infected, and had been sicken by the virus. I don't know how many deaths, but supposedly 1-2% of flu victims die. They are mostly very sick people to begin with. Nobody was closing borders. Cruise ships had sick people on them- nobody was quarantined . Pretty much the flu was ignored. So why is this second round of the flu virus different? It's not deadlier. It spreads exactly the same way. It's the flu, which we just came through, and nobody noticed.

The confusion is understandable because both influenza and COVID-19 tends to settle in the lungs. However, this is not a flu virus. It's a "novel corona virus." Novel refers to it being new to humans (so we have no immunity) and corona virus refers to the type of virus - corona, not influenza.

It is much deadlier. More than 10 times deadlier. Like 20-30 X deadlier overall. 80X (or more) deadlier in seniors.
 
I did mispeak the coronavirus is a common virus , not a member of the flu family. But the symptoms, & means of transmission are almost identical. The flu is deadly. "In 2017–18, the worst flu season on record in the U.S. outside of a pandemic, approximately 80,000 Americans died". My point being, if it is perfectly permissible to ignore the deaths of 80,000 Americans, and countless othere through out the world, when it is a "flu", why do you run around in full panic, buying up all the toilet paper in the universe if it is a coronavirus. Yes, you can get a "flu" shot, but if you don't get one you are just as unprotected from the flu , as you are from the coronavirus. Also the higher mortality rates from the coronavirus is from those , who have died in a hospital. Without knowing the total number of infected people, it is impossible to know what the mortality rate is. And so far. the rates are all over the board from 20% to .01%
 
If that's how you see it, then just accept the .01% and don't give it another thought. Leave the worry to others who might opt for a higher percentage.

Or - - -take your guidance from political spokesmen rather than non-government connected medical professionals. We're all free to get our info from whatever source fits our needs.
 
I went to a smallish award ceremony in the city of Sydney yesterday. Everyone was provided with hand sanitiser and recipients bumped elbows rather than shaking hands as they received their certificates. We stayed for lunch and travelled back home again on the uncrowded train. Generally speaking, this was a relatively low risk outing but anytime we leave the house we could come in contact with someone who is hatching the virus. I was conscious of using a couple of hand rails and made sure I washed my hands as soon as I could, but thinking about it now, I didn't blink as I pressed the button in the lift at the railway station.

The best we can do is observe hygiene and avoid very crowded spaces. The rest is not in our hands. I am often reminded of a scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Jones is fighting with a mysterious ME stranger on a driverless speed boat that is heading for destruction by a huge rotating set of blades. Jones becomes aware of the danger and the mystery man says to him, "My soul is prepared Dr Jones, how is yours?" Jones decides his is not and leaps for safety. At 77 years I do not have a death wish but if I am to die by a novel virus, then I am prepared. I am calm about the risk but for the sake of my husband I will take all sensible steps to minimise the risk.

Because influenza is a negative-sense ssRNA virus, while the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is a positive-sense RNA virus. They are radically different from each other, so different they don’t even use the same genetic code.

They are more different from one another than a koala is from an eggplant.

Tamiflu targets one specific protein made by one specific gene in the influenza virus. Specifically, it inhibits a chemical called neuraminidase, which is made by the influenza virus. Neuraminidase attaches to the cell membrane of an infected cell and tears it open, allowing newly-manufactured viruses to escape.

Coronavirus does not manufacture neuraminidase. Thus, Tamiflu does not affect a coronavirus.

So much misinformation in one post. The flu does not kill 1-2% of people, more like .01%. CV-19 kills around 2-3% or twenty to thirty times as many as the flu! It also seems to be way more contagious. Also CV-19 is NOT a flu virus.

Perhaps this whole thing has been an experiment by one of said countries to see what the effect of a pandemic would be. Or possibly this virus escaped from a biological warfare programme....There has to be an explanation for the mass hysteria.
 
I think it is getting so much attention because of its ease of transmission and the durability of the contagious substance which, as yet, has not been positively identified.

I don't believe that for a second that it was man made, but it would make a good movie. The powers that be decide Social Security and Medicare costs are out of control so they authorize a weaponized virus that mainly targets seniors and let it loose in the population. Can Jack Ryan stop it before it wipes out the over 65 population?

It could have been created in a Lab and accidentally made its way out. A person being exposed working in the lab. I don't think it was intentional.

And just like that...the government controls sporting events, concerts, jobs, colleges, medical facilities, travel, whether or not you can leave your house, has decimated necessities such as food/toilet paper/basic resources.

They now control your very lives. Your choices have been taken away. All freedoms have been removed and are now at the whim of government. Your ability to earn a living to provide for your family has been removed.

Mass hysteria, panic, media hype. Literally all over the world. Virtually overnight. All because of a single virus that is as serious as the common cold with an extremely high survival rate.

Now do you understand why the CDC, the World Health Organization, major universities and governments create new virus strains?

C-O-N-T-R-O-L. Fear. They have finally created the State of Fear they so desperately needed to regain control over the unruly masses enjoying their freedoms. Consumerism didn’t work. Oil “shortages” didn’t work. Climate hysteria didn’t work. Sandbox terrorism and war didn’t work. Gun control didn’t work. Invading illegals didn’t work. The buying of political positions/parties didn’t work. No, all it took was a virus and the media hype to spread this fear to the point where humans finally surrendered their freedoms in search of security. I would had died for sure they kept me for two weeks. With the picture of my fiance in Vietnam. I only had a vinyl thin layered cost I bought myself to go to work and back.
This same man left me in the ditch at the blizzard of '78' and how I lost my daughters.

Sounds like one of these "deep state' nutcases. Oh well - -everyone to their own beliefs. Even people in institutions have beliefs that should be respected.

One good thing would seem to be that there'll be no more strife and war. Seems like the whole world is finally "on the same page".

Hold on. CV-19 kills around 2-3% is all you see told everywhere. How about when they finally test all people for the virus and then the death rate becomes minuscule. See, we have the possible number of flu patients, but all we have is a small number of reported cases of cv-19.
It has been my assertion that there are many, many people infected already, but, we don't have the numbers. Once available, I'll bet the farm the death rate collapse's.

I agree, the death rate will likely go down. but there's still potential that this will kill millions in the US no matter what the death rate is. It still will be many times more deadly than the flu. How many people are actually tested for the flu? I for one have never had a flu test, you just recover at home. So while the death rate for both is way lower than reported, the CV-19 rate will be much higher than the flu. Hope I'm wrong of course and it dies out and it all seems like a big overreaction.

Every medical expert Dr. Fauci, etc has said no way this was man made. I believe them. Of course going back to the movie, what else would you expect them to say... they're in on it! Jack has his work cut out for him.
 
I went food shopping yesterday. It was an extremely sun lit ,warm day. All you need was a light sweater. At the store, I noticed the "burka" women. They were clothed from head to toe. Their faces were covered, and there was a tiny slit, so they could see out. And they were walking around with gloves on. People were buying these huge amounts of food. Their carriages were piled high. I had to crack up, because one burka woman,, had a cart full of rice cakes. That'll keep the meat on your bones. Some shelves were empty.
We had just come through the flu season with well over many 100,000's deaths, worldwide, and nobody was shutting down Disneyland. There were people on cruise ship with the flu, and nobody cared.
Here, in the US, we are busy getting out test kits for the virus. It's going to take a month or so. Then, when you get a kit, another month or so to get back the results. And if, you are positive, it means you had the virus two months ago- and that helps you how? Am I the only one seeing this coronavirus get totally overblown. Our hospitals are not filling up with sick people. And all the deaths are what you expect ,people over 70 and in poor health. Just like the flu season we just went through.
