I have to admit that sometimes I lose track of the OP too. My browser (Firefox) has an address bar up on top that shows the addy of the page I'm on and always includes the thread title, so if I'm lost I just glance up and say to myself "Ah! THAT'S what we're supposed to be talking about!"
 
Threads are like conversations... someone says something, and that reminds someone of something else.. and they post that, and that reminds someone else of something and the thread twists and turns. I don't believe threads should be completely on topic at all costs.. that's not reasonable.
