Things I couldn't get at the market today

Today I couldn't find Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce at our local supermarket. When my son went to it's larger "sister supermarket" last week, he said they had no Golden Cheese Blintzes. I don't like being without those. :cautious:
I love Sweet Baby Rays and use it to make wings...and those blintzes....send them my way!

I forgot what BBQ sauce I was using before, but once I tasted Ray's, that became my favorite. I wish I could find enough blintzes to send your way! Hopefully next time my son goes to Shoprite, they'll have them.

I'm having trouble getting decent sized baking potatoes.. Our major supermarket Tesco is selling bags of ''baking potatoes'' with potatoes which are no bigger than the palm of your hand and they are mostly forked..., even the loose ones are smaller than normal.
There are 2 factors, availability and price. The availability of particular sizes of potatoes is a reflection the previous growing season and ag practices. The availability is translated into price, so preferred sizes can cost considerably more than sizes that are more available and/or have less demand. Perhaps in order to keep prices where they were the market substituted a smaller size and/or in case of "mostly forked" a lesser quality.

I doubt it, we've been away from the EU for 5 years, it's only this last month or 2 wth the reduced size of potatoes., and anyway we grow most of pur potatoes here in our own farms .. it's not a lack of potatoes it's just a problem with the size...
I was asking more about the empty shelves than the potatoes.

The lack of size may indicate that the crop is smaller in total weight which usually ends up making for more expensive potatoes of every size as the storage crop ends.

Oh I see.. I don't know tbh.... it's not like we're lacking anything since brexit.. it just seems to me that there's a level of laziness within some supermarket workers.. for example in the fridges.. empty boxes that held prepacked cold cuts remain on the shelves instead of being removed to make the shelves look tidier.. etc ..so in essence I think rather than not have stock to fill those gaps, the staff who would other wise be filling sheves are not .. and or they're being used as personal shoppers...

I've mixed myself a glass of Lipton unsweetened iced tea, at Supper, for years. In recent weeks, we haven't seen any of this variation in the stores. I looked it up, and it has been discontinued. NUTS!!

I'm in the same boat Don, first it was Nestea instant a few years back that they did away with and now it's Lipton.

I've got 1 1/2 jars of Lipton left then I'll have to come up with an alternative.

I've heard so much about Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. I'll have to give it a try.

Grrrrr, could not find matzos again today. It's very hit-or-miss here. There are only two grocery chains in my town, plus two Walmarts and a Target. Neither Walmart nor Target carries them, but the grocery stores do, but not consistently. Also, if they are available, sometimes they are with the crackers and sometimes they are with the ethnic foods.

I'd order them online, but I'm pretty sure I'd end up with a box of crumbs! ;)

We really don’t have any shortages in my area. I don’t go grocery shopping, but decided to tag along with my wife last week and I was taken back when I saw all the shelves were filled. I did notice that my favorite frozen bag of veggies was sold out. I like Birds Eye Broccoli, and Penne Pasta with a cream cheese sauce. My wife grills some chicken to add to it and I could eat the whole bowl.

That's the ONLY sauce for me. The last time the Littles were here, I put it on their plates for their chicken nuggets. They were hooked. When we went to Walmart that weekend, I told them they could each get a treat. The little one asked for a bottle of Rays to take home. Now you KNOW it's good when a 5-year-old passes up candy.

The local Dollar General is pathetic. I bought a bag of chocolate morsels. The shelf tag said it was $3.75, but it rang up $4. I pointed that out to the clerk and she refunded me the difference and said she'd have to change the shelf tag. Also, they haven had and Stauffer's whales crackers or their own brand of Wheat Thins in months. No calcium gels in a LONG time. Many items are way past the "sell by" date. A few months ago I looked at a package of chopped pecans I needed for a recipe - it was over a year past the stamped date. Of course, I brought it to the attention of an employee, but he just gave me a blank look.

It's important to consume nuts before their expiration date because the fats go rancid quickly, even in the freezer. You can't always smell or taste it. Rancid fat is REALLY not good for us.

I went grocery shopping today and found the shelves half empty, particularly the refrigerated stuff. Employees were busy putting packages of meat, etc back on the shelves. When I asked what happened, they said they had a power outage this morning and had to remove all the food so they could fix the electronics under the shelves. (Or maybe replace them, I don't know what they did.) I guess they had some system for keeping the food cold safely somewhere else.

I didn't buy any meat anyway, as I didn't trust that everything was OK. But I did get most of the other things on my list.

P.S. Why is this subject being discussed on a Covid thread?
