Things that don't make sense.

This is something I don't understand. Diet cola tastes horrible. Coke is my favorite drink, but damn even I pass on the diet version.

Each to their own of course.
My huzz doesn't love the taste of diet cola but he says it's better than regular cola which is too sweet and better than water which is tasteless.

My huzz is not thin but he always drinks diet sodas when available; he says that the regular sodas are way too sweet (he has almost no "sweet tooth" at all). So I assume that there are others who drink it for the same reason. And if someone is thinking, "Then why don't people like him drink unsweetened tea instead?", he hates tea.

I believe we've had many studies now that show Diet Soda's aren't any better for you than regular. They're just bad in other ways.

Here's a link the first hit I got when trying to pull up an article about it:

Sad but True: Diet Sodas Are Bad for Your Health

The only way to drink healthy soda is to not drink soda. I know this, I believe this, and I may well go get myself a soda right now.

Yeah, I get it. Honestly, I just love the taste. I also love - BUBBLES. FIZZ. CARBONATION. Like, if I'm going to drink water, I prefer it carbonated. Not that I don't like it right out of the tap.

Huzz can't stand water; says it's too plain. About the only thing he does like to drink is beer, milk or coffee (and diet soda if none of the first 3 are available).

When I say Coke, I mean Coca Cola. Never been a Pepsi person. The only difference between the two is that Pepsi has more sugar in it.

My partner only drinks diet sodas. She's a Pepsi person. So if I'm out, I might steal a can. But it truly is out of desperation. I believe I could tell the difference quite easily. They're marketed that they taste the same in forever, but no for me.

I do sometimes get a hankering for Cresta. :D
I don't think I ever drank a Cresta..lol

Aren't "colas" basically a citrus blend with some minor additional "secret" flavor notes mixed in?

If you are patient enough to sit through the presentation of his "proah-ject" (yeah, he's an upper class Canadian):

Or maybe just sit through the beginning where he lists the ingredients.

My brother worked in a Coke factory in London back about 40 years ago.. he lived at my house at the time, and he would come home reeking of caramel.. and his shoes would rot right through in a very short time..

Amazing what memories can rise to the surface.

Anyone else remember being sent to the drugstore for Coke Syrup that came in pint sized waxed paper "milk carton" packaging?

A few decades ago, I worked for Culligan for a short time, and one major account was Coca Cola, who contracted with Culligan to provide reverse osmosis filters. Which means if you have ever bought Dasani, you paid for tap water run through a filter like most have in their homes.

So that's what doesn't make sense to me. Why are people wasting money on commercially bottled water when the water is literally what comes out of your faucet at home?

Maybe because most people don't have a kitchen sink in their car. When I'm on a trip I always have bottled water with me.

Buying bottled water - you're just buying someone else's tap water.
Imagine the environmental negatives of the packaging and transportation!

The environmental cost of bottled water is incredibly high. Imagine, simple water pouring out of a glacier. It have to be collected (by some powered device), tested, and bottled. The bottles are made of everyone's favorite, plastic. Then it has to be distributed, either by ship, air, or road, all over the country and world. It's placed on shelves where it is bought and taken far and wide. Once the water is done, most of the bottles are simple garbage. For a quick swig of water. It truly is a crazy thing. Most of the cost of a bottle of water is getting the water into your hands, because the water itself is likely near "free".

Very true.

And how does that explain the many people who buy it by the case to use at home?
Yep, we use a Britta pitcher to run our tap water through for drinking. The only time I ever bought a plastic bottle of water was once on a long car trip and I never could get the dang thing open.

I get behind people in the store buying whole carts full of bottled water. The expense, the environmental cost and the hard work of lifting all that into the house!
