Things to think about

Wasting 6 hours of your day by jogging and training just to add a few short years of your life is silly. When I'm sitting on a park bench flirting with women and watching joggers run past, my life is much richer than those who are training. The way I see it they are losing years of life rather than extending it. It's the same equation: Quality vs. Longevity.

I neither jog nor formally "train" but do take an enjoyable walk around the neighborhood for about 30 minutes most days. Throughout the day, in small spurts I work in about 20 minutes of exercise including a little stairclimbing, reps of a dozen pushups against my kitchen counter, and several rounds of lower-body strengthening squats.

I don't know if these will extend my life, but they surely help maintain my balance and muscle tone. Most of us gave those barely a thought earlier in life, but for seniors, strength and balance are definitely use-it-or-lose-it propositions. Lose those and you're apt to fall. And falling can be disastrous for seniors. Quality of life sails out the window, and often takes longevity with it.

If you saw me in a park I'd be walking around and climbing small hills, not jogging, training or sitting on a park bench.

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

Now you're talkin'.

So true. In my case, I've noticed that it's never even occurred to some people to do for me since they pretty much forgot I even existed. I think a lot of people have an "inner circle" of people they care about and just don't have time (or sometimes the inclination) to think about anybody else. Just the way people are sometimes.

Yep, I know what you mean. I could go on and on about this topic. Or when someone only knows you exist if they want something from you.

Why does Chicago Land pay 10's of Thousands $$$ to buy season tickets to watch the Bears and Cubs.
Boston, N.Y., Cincy, Detroit, Indy, New Orleans ... ? ... I parked my truck in a field and walked 2 miles

I was wondering why in the far east destruction, and disintegration are equally thought of as beneficial, while the emphasis in the "west" is for growth and security.? There are three main Gods in Hinduism.

1. Brahma: The Creator

Brahma is responsible for creation, and his role is often seen as the beginning of the cycle of life. He is depicted with four heads, each representing the four Vedas (ancient Hindu scriptures). Despite being an important deity, Brahma is not widely worshiped as a major god, and his temples are relatively rare.

2. Vishnu: The Preserver

Vishnu is the preserver and sustainer of the universe. He is often depicted as a blue-skinned god with a radiant complexion, and his role is to maintain balance and harmony. Vishnu is widely worshiped and has many temples dedicated to him across India.

3. Shiva: The Destroyer

Shiva is the destroyer and transformer of the universe. He is often depicted as a fierce, three-eyed god with a serpent around his neck. Shiva’s role is to release energy and bring about change, allowing for new creation to emerge. Like Vishnu, Shiva is widely worshiped and has many temples dedicated to him.

Together, the Trimurti represents the cyclical nature of creation, preservation, and destruction, illustrating the eternal and interconnected processes of the universe. This concept is central to Hindu philosophy and is often used to understand the complexities of life and the universe.

Shiva plays a crucial role in the Hindu understanding of reality and the cosmic cycle. As one of the principal deities in Hinduism, Shiva's role as the "Destroyer" is more nuanced and complex than simple destruction.

Shiva's Role in the Cosmic Cycle

Shiva is part of the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity consisting of Brahma (the Creator), Vishnu (the Preserver), and Shiva (the Destroyer)
1
. This triad represents the continuous cycle of creation, preservation, and dissolution that governs the universe. Shiva's role as the destroyer is essential for this cycle, as destruction paves the way for new creation.

Destruction as Transformation

In Hindu philosophy, Shiva's destruction is not viewed negatively but as a necessary and even positive force:

    • Renewal: Shiva's destruction allows for regeneration and rebirth. He is often seen as a reproductive power that restores what has been dissolved
      2
      .
    • Removing Obstacles: Shiva destroys ignorance, evil, and outdated or harmful structures, clearing the path for growth and enlightenment
      4
      .
    • Transformation: Rather than pure destruction, Shiva's role can be understood as that of a transformer or dissolutioner, breaking down old forms to make way for new ones
      4
      .

Shiva's Multifaceted Nature

Shiva's character is paradoxical and complex, embodying various aspects of reality:

    • Ascetic and Householder: He is depicted both as an omniscient yogi living an ascetic life and as a householder with his wife Parvati and children
      1
      .
    • Creator and Destroyer: While known for destruction, Shiva is also worshipped as a creative force, particularly in his form as Nataraja, the lord of dance
      3
      .
    • Benevolent and Fearsome: Shiva has both benevolent and fearsome aspects, representing the dual nature of reality
      1
      .

Spiritual Significance

Shiva's destructive aspect has profound spiritual implications:

    • Ego Dissolution: Shiva is said to destroy the ego, helping devotees transcend their limited self-identity
      4
      .
    • Spiritual Liberation: By destroying illusions and attachments, Shiva facilitates spiritual growth and ultimate liberation (moksha).
    • Cosmic Dance: As Nataraja, Shiva's dance symbolizes the continuous creation and destruction of the universe, representing the eternal nature of reality
      3
      .
In conclusion, Shiva's role as the god of destruction is integral to the Hindu conception of reality. Rather than being solely destructive, Shiva represents the transformative power that is necessary for renewal, growth, and spiritual evolution. His destruction is ultimately creative, embodying the cyclical nature of existence and the interconnectedness of all aspects of reality.

It is important to see and understand the full cycle of life. Each cycle having equal significance for living in this world. :)
