Thinking of moving to a Senior independent living facility.

My sister told me she's found a nice community in her state that is for low and medium income people. She'll only have to pay 30 percent. I think that's great. Rent prices are too high for many seniors now.

I am unhappy where I live.
It wasn't so bad here until some very obnoxious people moved in . I'm going to look for a senior community that has low rent. I can't do it yet because of my lease but I'm going to start looking into places soon.

I've been here longer than I have lived anywhere else in my life. I also am tired of this location and hope to find something in a nearby city. I am in the Cleveland Ohio area. There are many suburbs. I just have had it up to my eyeballs here. Time for a change

Has anyone else been looking for a senior community?

In some ways I miss Cleveland but the West Coast weather is better for my bones, but not the politics.
Are you looking to leave the Cleveland area or just a different suburb? AARP might have some good resources for Ohio. One thing I regret about leaving Cleveland is the Cleveland Clinic.
Today, I live on a quiet cul de sac but that could change so I always keep my eyes open for someplace easier to care for as it is hard to find someone willing to work today.

Check with your city or county commission on aging or whatever is similar in your area.

They should be able to provide you with a list of low cost or HUD subsidized apartments for seniors in your area.

We have several in my area but some are harder to get into than others and all of them have some sort of waiting list.

Also, check the local laws concerning your lease. Where I live a senior citizen can break a lease without penalty if they are moving into an independent or assisted living facility for various reasons, this sometimes requires a note from your PCP.

Now is the time to do your homework and explore your options, the hardest part is getting started.

Good luck, please keep us posted! 🤗

Well so far I want to stay in the area but a different one.

It's never a good sign when I hear the words "low income".
Oh yeah....

Thanks, we have a dept of aging here in my city. I know about the waiting lists. I was on one years ago for a couple of years. That's real good to know about the lease!

As a caregiver yourself you deserve extra special rewards. May you find great friends, have fun, and be of good health!

Would you go as far as Media? Kent, Stow? My grandma used to live just off Schaff Rd. and was happy then but didn't like the lake effect snow. I grew up in Portage Lakes and liked it there also. I don't know anyone there now but would like to visit one last time but it is so painful when it is time to leave. Are there any senior services available to help guide you?

Aunt Bea gave me some good guidance in her post here. I couldn't afford the moving charges to move any further than this city or one very nearby. Moving charges have gotten expensive, too. I've never been to Portage Lake but it sounds like a nice place. Yes, there are some senior services I'm going to look into. Thanks for your post.

You may have to leave Cuyahoga County altogether, in order to find something low-medium income in a safe area.

Geauga County is an Ag county with several senior communities. Maybe something nice in that county, that is reasonably priced??
Like I told someone else I couldn't afford to move much farther than the cities right next to me. Movers are expensive and I have very limited funds for it. I would prefer to stay in Cuyahoga county. I think there are some places not far from me. I just have to find out more about them. Thanks for your post!
