This is a bit weird

I get a notification from Classmates almost daily that this one person I graduated with “remembers me”. The thing is, I scarcely remember him! It’s going on a few weeks now. I might have been in track with him? Certainly not a close friend. I guess I could always cancel out - I only have the free subscription. Perhaps he is sending these notifications to lots of people. Or maybe Classmates just keeps resending it out?

Sounds odd to me,too.
I'm not at all familiar with Classmates, though.

Is Classmates an entity that would be motivated to try to keep you, either for the benefit of their advertisers or sponsors,
Or
to count as how many members they have,
or to interest you in a paid subscription, at some point?

So perhaps they're trying to string you along?

I'm not familiar with Classmates, but taking a quick look, they're a commercial operation. As such, I'm sure they're taking every opportunity to get you involved.

They definitely keep sending it out, and the same thing has been happening to me for years now. Someone "remembers" me but ten words were never even exchanged between us. I've successfully ignored it and trash the mail since it started at least 7 years ago. I "remember" people from my class and those before and after me, but that doesn't mean I "know" them.

For what it's worth, I've always figured that if someone truly wants to reconnect or reach me for some reason, they have many other ways to find me.

Weird. I used to be on something similar that hardly gets used. I looked there and then the next time I looked it was a year or 2 later and I noticed that a friendly classmate had asked me something. Sorry. I got no notification.

Probably. But it comes off more like some unhinged person stalking me!
That's how Classmates operates. I had a free subscription way back when, and they *still* bother me with those mails years after I cancelled. They also let people know if you've looked at their profile whether they're a member or not. That's unnerving. When I was curious about how someone's life turned out, I always looked at their profile... they're probably still getting emails that say "Kate is interested in your profile." :ROFLMAO:

Oh pooh! You made me curious, Michael... so I just checked my junk mail and found this:
You inspired Tony ***** to share a memory. Want to see what they said about you?
(Last name deleted by me.) Uh. Well that could be interesting and I wonder if it's the same memory I first thought of. 😲 It always just said someone remembered me. But an actual memory... that could get scary. But not gonna give in, nope nope. (although curiosity is definitely salting the snail, as SpongeBob said!)

I think classmates sends out those things to get your curiosity up so you'll join the pay site.

It is unlikely that you are being stalked in a physical or criminal sense, but rather, you are experiencing a common, aggressive marketing tactic used by Classmates.com to encourage engagement and paid upgrades. Here is a breakdown of why this is happening and what the notifications mean:

The "I Remember You" Feature: Classmates.com has a feature where users can click a button on a profile to say they "remember" someone.

System-Generated Spam: Many users report that these daily, repetitive notifications about the same person are not genuine, manual actions by the person, but are instead automatically generated by the platform's system.

Marketing Tactic: The platform often sends notifications designed to intrigue you into visiting the site and paying for a premium membership to see who is "visiting" or "remembering" you.
