No gagging allowed. Here in the South some folks eat chitlins. They are boiled or fried pig intestines.

steak and kidney pie is a thing in Australia too - I guess we have a lot of British origin in foods here too. Probably cow or lamb or pork kidneys - given they are most popular red meats here.
I don't eat them - but can't see a reason not to - if one is a meat eater, no ethical difference in eating kidneys vs other animal parts

I would choose intestines - saying that because I do eat sausages and isnt the casing made of intestines?

To me it doesn't have a thing to do with ethics. I just don't come from a family who eats kidney and intestines, or other animal parts like brains. OTOH, I used to love liver and thought nothing of it because I was accustomed to eating it.

I don't eat sausage very often, but yes, the casings are made from some animal product. So is jello.

yes that is what I was saying - I don't eat kidneys or any offal like liver brains tripe etc ( except the casing on sausages) - but ethically can see no difference between them and any other animal part. it isnt ethics for me either, just personal choice.

Good question!

I couldn't figure that out either.

By the way, I've put a link below to a video about an American family who came to the UK to help welcome home an English couple who had taken their van (which they named Trudy) all around the world. They started from Ironbridge, which is the place where the very first iron bridge was ever made, back in 1779. If you watch the video you'll see much more about English life than you would if you watched videos on YT from Americans who've only visited London.

During the video the husband of the American family tries a Full English breakfast, complete with black pudding. You'll have to watch to see his reaction to it, and also their one year old daughter's reaction when she too sampled it for the first time.


You'll also get a much better idea of what England has to offer in the way of history and food by watching the whole video. Enjoy!
 
Another guess to the item at the 1-2 o'clock position on the plate, could it be toad in the hole? BTW, except for the black pudding-- I could eat all that. I might try the black pudding, but if allowed to substitute it, I probably would.

I have tried black pudding, but found it very metallic and chemical tasting. I guess if you lick your own blood from a cut you'll know what it tastes like, as it is pigs blood after all.

Have you ever heard of white pudding? That's the lungs if I remember rightly. Still a spongy texture, but a very different taste to the black pudding taste.

I've heard of people eating lungs, but not called white pudding. I'd probably pass on that too. I think I'm much less adventurous as I've grown older.
