This should be fun!

So, here's my plan. Since I'm stuck at home anyway, I figure I might as well keep busy and do some clearing out that should have been done all along. I've live here since 1976, so you can imagine the accumulation. I've done the utility room and just finished the kitchen. My bedroom is next and on to the rest of the house, which includes a finished 3 room attic. And when I'm done, I'm going to start again and reevaluate what I held on to. I'm just one person. How much crap🥺 do I need?

Wow! Staying in the same place that long--44 years!--I simply can't imagine that, as I have moved 24 times in 58 years, not counting my childhood. So...accumulation is not to the same degree as yours. I moved to the Prairies ten years ago after my husband passed, so the first thing on the agenda was the house, lots of big furniture, and a bit accumulation (not much), and this downsizing has all held me in good stead; I am happy where I live, a smaller place to keep clean, etc. etc.

I know it sounds like a long time. We moved a lot when I was growing up because of my father's work. I used to envy schoolmates who lived in the same house since they were born. So, when we bought this house, it meant I could stay put. We also had a place up north where we spent a lot of time at in the summer, so staying here never really got old. Plus, it's in a good location. Close to several interstate highways and lots of good shopping areas.

This is my first winter on my own. It's a test. If I don't like it, I'll think about selling out and getting an apartment. So far so good. Really, I'd be crazy to leave here. The house is paid off and the utility bills and taxes are low. And, since I don't use the upstairs, it's like an apartment with a back yard and an enclosed front porch.

You've just described me to a Tee .. before I was 25 I'd moved 16 times in total ,,as a child and then again as a Naval wife.. so by the time we got this house it was 17 times the house we got after leaving naval quarters , and now I've been here 41 years at the end of this month....we also have a second home in Spain, so again like you we had a chance to get away from here.. and in fact I lived in Spain for the better part of 10 years at our house.. and also prior to that lived and worked for short periods in Northern Italy and Frankfurt Germany... so although it sounds like 41 years is a long time in one house... it ain't necessarily so...😜

I was an Army wife with many PMQs later with the moves continuing even when retired from the Military. With the first posting being Germany, and with other being so close, we did manage to visit a few.

T-shirts, most are souvenirs from our travels and I keep them until they are worn out.
Books, my mother's high school science book is 101 years old and some others date to the 1800s. There is one that I have personally owned since 1943.

How many? I have over one hundred Aloha shirts, all lovingly made by my very talented wife.
I shall to break it down for you, ha ha...the bathroom has a couple, my bedroom 20+, kitchen 5+,Living room 20 to 50 at a time, my office, sigh, pretty well wall to wall, a few on the hall bench ready to pass on, the spare room is also rather full with one wall to the ceiling. I am usually reading three books at a time. My books are a mixture of fiction, non-fiction, history, medical, science, etc. I always hit the annual book sale...sure hope it is a go this Summer. I love magazines and newspapers but they are kept in a rack so I don't lose them, ha ha. I set my day by usually getting through those mindless chores out of the way so I can seriously sit and lose myself in a good book before heading out to greet the animals. I have seriously lost count and do not wish to disturb those sleeping dust bunnies.

Another shirt coming together. The first picture shows the interfacing that stiffens the collar and makes the buttons and button hole area firm. Shop bought Aloha shirts don't have this due to costs. The second photo shows the breast pocket detail, all skilfully pattern matched. The third, fourth and fifth sees it coming together. The area in the fourth picture is known as the yoke, a pattern this size would waste almost a yard of material to match it up so my wife gets it as close as possible. I'm more than happy with the result so far.
