No..generally speaking the shorts are a PITA, and I do block them because they come up in my feed and their really annoying... I don't want to see someone's cat chasing a ball of wool .. or someone eating a pizza in 3 seconds...

I am a regular on youtube , shorts can get right to the point, you need some knowledge and editing skill to make them work ... you don't need to block them just don't click on them that's all you need to do ...

Watch this one ...
...it's brilliant and gets right to the point ....
People who drug drinks aren't obvious, so the entire premise of the video requires a tremendous suspension of disbelief. Fail.
Virtually anyone with a full view of what the guy was doing would step in, so not much of a social experiment. Fail.
A music track instead of the sound of what was actually going on? I muted it immediately. Fail.

I only go on YouTube to watch videos of my own choosing - informational on a particular subject or specific music. Google and YouTube aren't the boss of what I want to watch.

This video only reinforces my intentions to continue avoiding videos not of my own choosing.

I think most of us watch what we want ? But sometimes you get the useful ones pop up , either move on or watch is everyone's choice , Fail or no fail ..lol.. They are usually for the young folk anyway, which is good for their education to be on the lookout, so nothing negative ... Usually the young that make them ,,,so there is still hope in this world ..

Exactly, and short videos. Nowadays, people have incredibly short attention spans, they have no time for a 5-min video, let alone writing forum posts, unless it's a problem that needs fixing. Some forums function more as Q&A websites than communities.

Nice to meet you too. :)
On some forums there are members openly hostile to those that tend to write longer, carefully crafted posts and act like such is uncommon. What they don't understand is that long before they ventured onto the web before the idiocy of AOL first arose, most posting on discussion sites did primarily post longer messages and on some they still do. And it is not just business, commercial, science, and university sites where people have more to say.

For example, dpreview.com, the largest gear oriented photography community has endless threads dominated by long posts because folks tend to be highly intelligent with much to communicate and the ability to write coherently. Same thing on most other tech enthusiast sites I might list.

End of point and shoot compact pocket cameras :(: Open Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

If That's the case, Matrix, we all have a short attention span lol… As lots of shorts are used as adverts for the full video ... a bit like the TV does ... But you're right about Forums and the big social media sites, they are overwhelming sites like this, and as we oldies get more tech-savvy we will be joined them ...

The thread title says that there are 517 guests at the moment, this would have been back at the beginning of the year, somewhere around mid-January.
How many of those guests, I wonder, have to stay guests? Simply by age restriction. How helpful it might be for relatives who may be concerned about an elderly family member, to be able to tap into the experiences of this forum's member's advice. Is a guest only thread not possible?

A lot of those "guests" are likely web-crawling bots.

Many humans interested in SF probably do as I did - lurk anonymously (guest) for a while to get the rhythm and rhyme before deciding to join, test the water with a few posts, then become increasingly active.

Over the years several people have joined for exactly the reason you mentioned. Nothing precludes them from doing so. SFers have replied kindly and helpfully, the posters thank us for the info, and then move along.

At least 5 years ago, I recall a college or HS student hoping for some input for a paper he/she was writing. Many here responded, the poster thanked us, then went on his way.

I checked a couple of minutes ago and there were 168 guests. 6000 + members and + 2,400,000 posts.
That's a lot of hot air. haha ... :ROFLMAO: ... 35 members on forum currently. 33 & 132 just now.
