Three people were killed and 10 wounded

Another day in the US of A. Just one death short of a massacre.

My adblocker prevents me from viewing the article. Is the shooter one of the fatalities?

Edit - I found another source

MSN

Police later confirmed at a press conference that a total of 14 people had been injured from gunfire.

All three of those who died were civilians, with eight more injured. Two law enforcement officers were also wounded.

Authorities later identified the shooter as 44-year-old Travis Posey. He was taken to the Ouachita County Jail and charged with first degree murder. His motive for the shocking attack remains unknown.

Video online showed a heavy police presence at the local grocery story. Locals later described the incident at the Fordyce supermarket as “a terrible day for our little town”.

“This is a small town and we personally know several people that were very nearby when the shooting took place. It’s just such a horrible thing that happened to people simply trying to grocery shop,” Fordyce resident Charise Ellson wrote on Facebook.

The Media pushes these stories for some reason. Multiple fatality accidents meeting the "mass shooting" standards happen every day.
Here are statistics i posted before.
USA is #32 on the list of gun homicide's, 3.96 per/100K, with 13 other countries following in the 3/100K range.
The top 12 countries range is 15.62/100K to a whopping 36.78/100K...
Even more interesting is 9 of those 12 are in South America.
For some comparisons, US auto accident deaths 12.9/100K, US OD deaths in 2021 32.4/100K

It's a big country (the US) with a lot of people. The likelihood of shootings is much higher. Then you have the media who are starving for news because they have to create the illusion that they're needed 24-7. The media now reports from all over the world as if we really need to know news from areas not within our immediate scope of influence.

That is true until you examine the number of deaths per 100,000 of the population. In 2019 (the year I saw from an earlier link) the death rate/100,000 for Australia was just under 1 death per 100,000. For the US it was over 11 per 100,000. However, leaving out suicides and accidents the US figure comes down to just under 4/100,000 and Australia becomes 0.18/100,000 or about 1/20th of the US rate.

There is no prize for the highest or lowest rate. It simply is what it is. Each country needs to look at its own social problems and seek solutions to the problem of the rate of loss of lives of its own people.

Yes, another day in America.
Comments like this are despicable, though conditioned by the media and authoritarians so maybe people can't help it.

Unhappy in America? There's the door, you are free to leave for a more authoritarian monocultural regime.

It is more productive to examine the motivations that lead people to such extreme actions.

We need to prioritise people over guns.
Anyone can be affected by gun violence, but it often disproportionately impacts people of colour [sic], men and boys in deprived communities, and other marginalized groups. Domestic violence involving firearms also puts women at heightened risk of death or life-changing injuries.
Up to 71% of all homicides globally involve gun violence. The majority of victims and perpetrators are young men, but women are at particular risk of violence from an intimate partner possessing a firearm. Sexual violence can also be perpetrated at gunpoint.

Tell this to the people who's family members, including children, were killed by senseless gun violence! It's not a matter of being "unhappy in America" but of starting to feel it's becoming increasingly unsafe here. That shouldn't be. We can examine the motivations of shooters all we want, but analytics is not going to stop the next shooting. There used to be a couple of mass shootings a month. Now there's a couple each weekend.

One problem is the lack of understanding and adequate care for those who are mentally ill. Another is the trepidation of family and friends to notify authorities if someone they love seems to be coming unhinged. Then, according to reports, some of the shooters apparently seemed "normal" and unlikely to do something so terrible.

Do we have to choose which is worse?

The homicides starts are very sad but the one stat that stood out to me was the number of suicides in the US compared to the other countries :(

I just lose patience with the endless hand-wringing and calls to change other people as politicians make hay off it. In the meantime we experience one tragedy of this type after another with no end in sight.

We had one of these here a few months back. It's pretty clear that national media messaging bears a good deal of blame:

This isn't about your personal political agenda folks.
