Three Year Old Shot Dead in Arkansas!

This is a dreadful incident, a three year old out "Christmas Shopping"
with his gran is shot dead by a bad tempered thug, (the only name),
in a road rage attack at a road junction.

Well, she was rather slow moving off from a stop sign.

If this happened only once in a generation it would be shocking but I read that there was another similar incident of a child being shot in a car by an angry man just three days apart from this one. I can't find the link just now but bullets were fired at a moving car and a child in the back seat was hit. It seems to have dropped off the news feed.

Good thing it wasnt a knife or Heroin. You would have to blame some other inanimate object rather than the thug.

Well, it would have been pretty hard to use a knife to kill that baby from outside his grandmother's car wouldn't it? He would have had to throw the knife TOWARD the car like he fired the gun. The comparison is complete nonsense.

Of course it is only reasonable for a grown man to be driving around with a loaded gun at the ready to teach grandmothers who are slow off the mark at the stop light/sign not to do it again.

His licence gives him this right in Arkansas and in any case, grandmother should have had her own gun to protect the baby from "the thug".
 
Pleas to emotion do not strengthen or prove your arguement. If you are against guns etc say so. Would it have made any difference if the man was ungrown, and I really doubt if he was trying to teach anything to anyone., reviewing such a tragic event to politicize your feelings is truely childish
 
Sorry rt3, I was being ironic. I'm not actually against guns altogether. I just think that before someone is allowed to own one, they should have a very good reason for needing one and licences should be conditional on thorough background checks. Licences and the guns themselves should be registered and the register should be accessible to law enforcement.

However, I know that on this issue I am swimming against the tide. I'm just grateful that where I live road rage is rarely escalated by someone opening fire on other motorists.
 
I was watching Border Security on television the other day and was amused to see two American tourists who tried to enter Canada to go to Peace Arch Park on our side of the border. They had their toddler with them and stated when asked, that their reason for coming was to just spend the day at the park, they'd heard it was a nice one. They didn't get in though, because they brought three firearms with them, all loaded and most amusing of all, one was tucked into the diaper bag.

When my little ones were babies and I took them to the park, I can't remember one time where I ever thought I should have a loaded gun in my diaper bag and I was most definitely a suspicious and watchful mama.

doesnt matter if you did you couldn't have handled the situation probably good thing you may have hurt yourself or the baby
 
People in a road rage have no remorse and will fight godzilla by hand. Many people are not only preoccupied or distracted, but they always in a hurry and experiencing/on an adrenaline rush just from driving a 3,000 pound vehicle and/or listening to music. Wether it's a gun, the car itself or one's fists to be willing to stop driving to confront a stranger/ driver in a aggressive manner says alot about the individual-including they are dangerous.

POS will face justice one day.

To me this is just another tragic example of what happens when crazy people have access to guns. More horrible news that is becoming all too common.
 
This was truly a tragic event. How do we prevent such incidents from happening again? Here in Pennsylvania, we have hundreds of guns being given away via raffles. We also have private sales of guns and sometimes people just trade with their buddies for things they may need. I know of one fellow that traded a really nice, expensive high powered rifle for an old used car. Do these guns ever get registered or re-registered? How do we stop this from happening? And, it really does not matter if the gun is registered or not to people like the guy that shot this little child. In fact, that's the last thing on his mind.

So, a guy fires a shot into the back of the car hoping to intimidate or scare Grandma and ends up killing her Grandson. I believe that I heard the reward is up to $40,000.00 now. Hopefully, someone will step up and do the right thing and turn this guy in. This little fellow needs justice to be served. When the suspect is caught and goes to prison, they will have to put him into a protective unit, but at some point, he will be released into the general population. It's at that point justice will be served.

I am not speaking for prison violence, but being realistic, it does happen, as it probably will in this case. That little boy may have a family member or friend in prison waiting for him. I have seen that a time or two or more.

For us responsible gun owners, it is just another black eye. I used to hunt and go hiking, so I did have a few personal pistols and rifles. Now, I am down to just having two pistols in the house, both with quick release trigger locks. They are both kept loaded, but not racked and are out of sight.
 
I think road rage is an anger management issue along with being prone to tantrums, violence or outbursts wether driving or on foot. I venture to say they'll find some signs in the killer's recent or previous past that would show this was not a surprise action on the perp's part. People are embolden not only with a weapon but with the vehicle itself because for starters it's a barrier effective or not.
 
This was a horrible event and I'm glad the driver turned himself in. I hope that once he's incarcerated, the other inmates make his life a living hell ! That little boy was so sweet and adorable. They probably had presents for him under the tree. Someone said this would have probably the first Christmas he could remember. I can't imagine what the family is going through and I'll be the grandmother is feeling very guilty even though it was not her fault at all.
 
This is just one more case of a fatal flaw in our society. It is like the "snowflake" thing. People are being raised to believe that they can never be disappointed. When they are, they either fall apart and need counseling or get enraged and "act out".

In this case, since the shooter was black, you can add another problem for blacks - they are raised in a culture of victimology hence may be more inclined to "acting out".

I'm not trying to excuse the shooter. But I am saying that he may be a product of our times and we'd better change our ways or we are in for a very difficult future.

I tend to agree with this observation although not necessarily in this particular case.

I was raised by a mother who insisted that I never show disappointment to the world. I had to be a good loser at sport and other competitions. Equally, I had to be a good winner and was never allowed to be exultant if I ever came first at anything, which was a rare event. I think she had absorbed Rudyard Kipling's poem "If" in her youth.

Perhaps it was the British stiff upper lip approach to life but I also made sure that my children experienced life's little disappointments and learnt how to deal with them. I considered this to be an necessary inoculation for adult life.

That said, my life and my children's lives were never lives of unending disappointments. I have not lived the life of an Australian indigenous child, not a poor Afro American boy so I won't ty to make comparisons with this case where the little boy was killed.
 
This criminal did turn himself in... after his family found out he had killed the little boy and threatened to turn him in. He has not been remorseful about firing a shot into the backseat of the lady's vehicle. Says she was following him too close and needed "taught a lesson". Claims he didn't know the 3 year old was in the backseat and, therefore, is not guilty of anything.

Over and over we see this "me" attitude exhibited across racial lines... across gender lines... across religious lines. Our culture has evolved to the point where we have to "prove" we are right and no one better doubt it. Then, putting firearms into the hands of those raised in communities where life is no longer valued... where it's kill or be killed while sitting on your front porch or going Christmas shopping with Grandma... is what we have people suggesting ALL should be armed. I guess if a criminal who indiscriminately fires a 40 caliber handgun into the backseat of a lady's car to "teach her a lesson" is a "well regulated militia"...........
 
I get your point, Grumpy, but I just can't see denying millions of law abiding, rational Americans their right to own a weapon because we are unable or unwilling to control those who cannot be trusted with them. There has to be a better answer.

"... law abiding..." Until the elected officials will stand up to the NRA and close the gun show loophole and private sale loophole there is no way to even begin keeping firearms out of criminal hands.

"... rational..." And, just how do we define 'rational'?? Until elected officials will stand up to the NRA and allow legislation of requiring release of HIPPA records before purchasing a firearm, we have no way of weeding out some who are not 'rational'. Until elected officials will stand up to the NRA and make domestic assault, child abuse, etc. ... even though adjudicated at misdemeanors... grounds for disallowing owning or possessing a firearm, we have no way of weeding out those who are not 'rational'.

Most are not asking for legislators to ban ownership of firearms from citizens who are "law abiding" and "rational". So many senseless killings could be eliminated... so many innocent lives could be saved. Instead, we seem to always talk about "slippery slopes" and "if guns, why not knives or ball point pens". WE, the citizens of this Country, need to be the "rational" ones. WE need to insist on fixing what is wrong instead of simply quoting memes sent out hourly by the NRA.

guess you got to blame somebody. Should blame the police for not enforcing laws on the book.

NRA was only 3 mill couple years ago. But I have to thank you as now we are over 12 mill after listening to rants like this one.

if Hippa was released it would put 12 to 15 percent of the population in the undrivable category due to alcoholism alone.
another 10% would be put on leave from their jobs because of side effects from their medication making them dangerous to work with. And it would deny many social security and veterans their constitutional rights just as Big zero just signed in his executive order to go into effect as the door slams him in the rear. Look for this to be one of the first to be overturned
 
Grumpy - about your attack on the NRA, last week in Pasco Country FL people (3 I believe) were killed when a van ran over their golf cart at something like two am. The golf cart was operating illegally on that road. There was a suggestion that the van was speeding.

So, is the solution to get rid of all golf carts or all vans?
