Thrift stores anyone?

Not really.. I find with the state of the economy in the Uk now..people are holding onto their things much longer, and stuff that is being donated isn't of the same quality as it once might have been. However I still donate clothing and household goods on a regular basis..

Used to love thrifting and the hunt for a treasure....not so much now, although there is a very nice resale shop near where I grocery shop that I love, has new and slightly worn good quality clothes and accessories at good prices.

I like browsing, but rarely buy anything except a few jigsaws. They're usually only about £1 although some shops are a bit greedy and charge up to £5. I don't normally buy clothes, but recently I found some new shirts still in their box for £2 and Mrs. L found a lovely red coat for £3.

Thrift stores anyone?

My lady gets a lot of her clothes there
Terrific deals
Like new (folks 'grow outa them')
She likes looking online to see what the prices are when new

Me?
It's where I get my shop rags (the sheet and towel depts)

I have a hard time with pants. I need Petite. Need to go to Dept. Stores for that or online. I don't like to buy clothes online.

Some thrift stores charge too much for some things. Value Village charged CAD 10 for ratty old sweaters, when you could buy a new one at Walmart for the same price. But even Value Village has some good bargains.

I moved here with whatever would fit inside my small car. I was able to buy everything from clothes to a vacuum cleaner at the local thrift store, at a fraction of what they would have cost new.

But now that I have everything I need, it has little appeal. I'm not one for buying knickknacks and so on. I did find a nice pair of silver earrings for CAD 25, and I was happy about that.

My aunt ran one for a homeless shelter, I’d visit it often. I’d get cleats, baseball gloves and other gear for teams I coached. Nike cleats (new) for $2.00 and gloves $5.00 max. Occasionally I’d find a hoodie for myself or a Carhartt coat. Good times.

Everything in my house is 2nd hand, even the dogs!! 60 years ago, used items had a bad connotation - my husband and I couldn't afford new. I still enjoy the old book cases, dressers, china cabinets, paintings, and 60 pieces of restaurant dishes (after 3 kids, only broken one piece!!) The mattresses. beddings and towels are new.

After buying two items for $10 each in a charity store yesterday, I browsed the Main Street stores. There wouldn’t be any satisfaction in paying $98 to $249 for the ones I was admiring. If it was something I was going to wear a lot or to someplace special, I’d pay it. Since I’m not, those things stayed there.

I used to get a lot from yard sales but haven't in a long time. There are no thrift stores anymore except in very urban areas and I don't live there.

I've been to Goodwill and got a zip up sweat shirt that I washed upon arriving home in case of some critter infestation as mentioned above. I donated items too. They were the result of a gift card I got for Christmas for a store that was not near me, so I just went there to spend the whole thing and ended up with 1/2 of what I really didn't need just so I would not have to go back, so I just donated it.

I remember spending my vacations in Corpus Christi and I'd go with my aunt to thrift stores. I found one light pink cardigan that I loved. Wonder what happened to it?!? 😓

Yes, I used to love to go thrift shopping. I have gotten some of the best clothing bargains at my favorite thrift/consignment shop. I got two wool coats, one a classic wool, herringbone Chesterfield coat for $4.50 and a designer navy blue, three quarter swing coat for $4.50. Every time I wear it, I encounter women who tell me they want my coat. I also bought a tan all weather jacket $4.50. Some of their clothing is new. I got a Diane von Furstenberg long denim dress for $7. I know it was new because there were two identical ones hanging on the rack. Also I've seen clothes that were designated to be sold by Dress Barn and J.C. Penny's hanging on their racks with the store tags still on them and jeans with the manufacturers cardboard tag still stapled on them. I bought a Tignanello leather bag for $16. I knew it was good quality as soon as I saw it. When I checked the price on the Tignanello website, it sold for $149! I've also gotten some cute tee shirts from there. Their prices have gone up in the last two years, however.

At another thrift shop my husband and I used to go to. I bought an off white embroidered pant suit for $1.00, as well as a pink one also for $1. I gave the pink one away. I also bought a navy gingham dress for $1 and some lounging clothes for 25 cents apiece. That thrift shop was in the basement of a school building and had to have mad close out sales before school closed for the summer. I'm overdue for checking to see what my favorite shop has to offer.

I used to browse and buy at thrift stores. I built a few computers from parts of the discarded ones. I cannot get to them anymore. I do miss going though. I also liked yard sales. I think the saying goes one mans garbage is another mans gold.

I enjoy a good trip to the thrift store. I find many things for the kitchen. Dishes, pans, etc. Many people, who can afford it, buy new when there is nothing wrong with the ones they have.

As far as clothing, I shop the end of season sales, 75 to 80% off. I have a lot of things hanging in th closet, tags on. I do the same with shoes. Right now I have about 10 pairs that have not been worn. If some event comes up I can go shop in the closet. Seems I keep putting on weight between the time of purchase and the next season LOL. At least, I have what I might need if I can lose weight, I will be dressed well. I don't wear anything special for the most part but I do like to have nice things for special occasions or outings.
