Time For Camping

It's a mix of favored spots and new ones. We typically go on a 10 day trip in early spring, a couple of summer outings, and then another long trip in the fall. The longer trips usually are to see National Parks or similar areas and the summer ones to mountain lakes or rivers.
The question was meant for the OP Mary but reading of your adventure is interesting too! Thank you. I can live vicariously through you campers. :D From your replies I get the impression you go on camping trips in your RV. (?) I think that is a very cool option.

gary o tell uls what you miss in more detail - otherwise we're just guessing?
The air
the water
the quietude of fresh fallen snow

our back yard in winter.jpg

the beasties, large and small
the unknown of what's next
the morning rises

I wrote a little something while living in the mountains

It was about our cabin (not camping) but it rings true, just the same;

Someone, in another forum, posed the question; ‘What is your definition of a cabin?’

My reply;

For me?

It's more than even Kinkaid could replicate.
It's warmer than the warmest of wood stoves.
It has more charisma than the grandest of orators,
more appeal than the most opulent edifice built.

Yet it's simpler than the simplest of abodes.
...all the while doing its modest magic

Turning a mason jar to a drinking glass,
a tuna can to an ash tray,
a wooden apple box to a cabinet,
a burlap bag to a slip cover,
favorite old clothes to attire of choice,
a stranger to an acquaintance,
an acquaintance to a friend,
a wife to a mistress,

a life....to living.

And for me,

it's now home.

Yeah, I miss it

1pm 27th april 23 wow that was great - I can understand you missing all of that and more. For some of us though it sounds quite scary - do you have to build up your confidence overtime - cos you did get some visitors heh checking you out with a thought of their own larders heh??

I love looking @ the stars, I use to camp roughing it, older now...love camping....but enjoy the easy way now. Have my tent, sleeping bag, cook stove, wood for my fire, yet have plug in for my phone etc...lol

This is the environment I usually camp in. In north west England. I've posted this short video in another thread. At the end of the video, close the where the woman is standing, is where we have camped a couple of times. But Ive also camped in many other places within this national park.

a lot of us would be pure sh.....ess with permanent fright though? how do ya get over that?
Everbod gets scared
Some get over it when the mysteries become resolution
Some don't give it a chance

Town folk seem to get creeped out from it being 'too quiet'
I never could figger that out

Walking thru the woods around eventide, when coyotes wail their tunes, one gets a bit of a chill

That....I miss

I grew up in the Colorado mountains and went camping a lot. As young adults my wife and our kids also camped a lot.

Now that we are older and live on the plains, we seldom go camping, but we have found memories of when we did. We do still rent little cabins and cook our meals outside over an open fire and enjoy the campfire at night. Just like camping except we sleep on beds and have a warm cabin to sleep in.

Brings back memories  last time I camped in a tent in the big woods was at a reservoir to do some fishing. 1st night the black bears
came in, had a fire outside of the tent they did not seem to mind. I had seen some bears earlier that day so left no food scraps etc.
around the camp sight. Those raskels pestered me all night. They even went as far as to brush the sides of the tent you could hear
claws on it! They would start and I would beat a pot and frying pan together to make a racket. They would leave only to return in 10 or 15 minutes. I completely destroyed those two pans... o_O
Now I live in the woods :giggle:

Done a lot of camping in my life, tents and the like. Spent several summers working in Wyoming living in a tent when I was younger. One of my favorite camping adventures was canoeing down the Green River through Canyonlands National Park, 7 days and did not see another person. That was ~30 years ago, doubt it would be so private today, but still would be nice.

Not sure I will be doing much more tent camping, but a couple of years ago I got a small camper trailer, kind of luxury camping, but easier on this 70 year old body.

That is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I asked these questions in another thread because I didn't see this one first. No need to answer in the other thread.
How often do you go camping Mary? Do you always go to the same spot? My honorary daughter was supposed to take me "glamping" once but we wound up not going. The outdoor camping thing is definitely not for me. :)

I try to go at least 2 weekends a month. I just got back from 3 day camping with my sister...June I will take my GS camping...In july, My 3 sisters and I are going for 6 days...Sisters getaway. We all love camping. Never been glamping. Everyone puts up their own tents, we all add to meals and cook. Sisters like to kayak. I don't have one but will probably get one. We all have been white water kayaking and that was fun. We love the outdoors. Love cooking potatoes with bacon in cast iron skillet, smell is so great, that and coffee. can't get any better.
