"Thunberg has become the biggest voice on the biggest issue facing the planet—and the avatar of a broader generational shift in our culture that is playing out everywhere from the campuses of Hong Kong to the halls of Congress in Washington," Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal wrote.

I applaud this young girl for her concerns. However, I am convinced that Anything that would be done about the Climate/Environment would be a case of "too little/too late". Unless humanity suddenly decided to curb its excessive population growth, and give up most of our modern conveniences....heat/AC/transportation/electricity, etc.,etc., any actions that could be taken without completely turning our societies upside down, would be superficial, at best. Eventually, all the human excesses will catch up with the planet, and between rising oceans, and increasing hunger, etc., some balance will eventually be restored. None of those of our ages will see the chaos that is coming, but our grandkids and beyond will have to find new ways to cope.

The Tipping Point is very near....if not already here....and anyone living in any low lying oceanfront areas would be well advised to sell, while their properties are still of some value. It will take decades to transition from fossil fuel use, to renewable resources, and every day that passes with current energy sources will only make things worse, and hasten the day of "reckoning".

She has already changed my thinking. I am much more cautious about what I buy - if it has plastic in it and where it will end up. If my leader is a 16-year-old girl, so be it, as long as the job gets done.

Greta came in on a sailboat, Carol.
"Voyage of Greta Thunberg. Climate activist Greta Thunberg sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in August 2019 to attend climate conferences in New York City and Chile. She sailed from Plymouth, England, to New York City, United States, aboard the Malizia II, a racing yacht equipped with solar panels and underwater turbines ... "

She's 16. A child. What were You doing at 16? Making fun of 6 year olds?
I think she's been seriously manipulated, and I actually think she's potentially mentally unstable, she should be in school and her parents should be ensuring that she is, instead of travelling all around the world with an angry young lady ... at 16 I'd already been out for a whole year working a 40 hour week in the big bad world!!

She is on The Asperger's Spectrum.

And how is she getting around the US? In a Tesla? All for show, IMO. But she's got virtue signaling down pat. The reality is most people can't travel by private yacht, anymore than they can travel by electric cars everywhere. I saw her UN speech and it was overwrought and highly emotional, to say nothing of unrealistic. But whatever. Time magazine hasn't gotten it right in years. Just my opinion, to which I am entitled. Oh, and I'd be willing to bet that the yacht has a backup, diesel powered engine, because there are cloudy days, and windless days.

Which means... what, exactly?
It means that she can't see other peoples' point of view, or the 'Big picture'.
She rants and raves and throws her toys out of the pram if anyone disagrees with her.
She may feel that she's out to save the world, but reality is something she knows little about. She's a 16 year old kid. Maybe she'll learn.

I don't think she is any more remarkable than some kids her age, and less so than some. There's this kid. http://www.tccwb.org/day-1-bags/ His project started out as a project for Eagle Scouts, and turned into something much bigger. He started with a real issue, and now he's helped thousands of kids in a small, but significant way. He will never make the cover of Time magazine, but he has done a world of good.

Wow! While I think it's a "bit much" giving her all of the accolades she has, at 16, I do think her heart is in the right place, and I think it's very sad that so many, in here, have so much negativity to throw her way!

Incredibly sick that the powers that be exploited a young person who also has a disability.

Sorry treeguy, it is not negativity , it is fact....She & her "handlers" are phonies ...... she & they travel all round the world by plane, telling other people that "they" shouldn't do the same.

Uh, no, they don't. Except for emergencies, she has announced that she will no longer fly.

I agree with Greta Thunberg. I think she is a remarkable young woman and I'm 81 years old. I suspect that the only real solution to excessive greenhouse gases in the atmosphere will have to be solved by technology if at all but I agree that we should all do what we can to lower our carbon footprints.

But she did....when she was spewing her words of climate control, etc. She's a phony. Just how many "emergencies" does the average person have ? Was it an emergency that she fly to the UN ? If she is not going to fly, how is she going to continue to spread her crap ? How is she going to stay in the "limelight" ? Which BTW she seems to enjoy......
