With the economy caught in a series of "ups and downs", now the railroad workers may be going on strike, and the Chinese are shutting down due to in upsurge of Covid. If the rails shut down for more than a few days, the store shelves will quickly become empty, and if China production is disrupted, thousands of consumer goods will be impacted. It's not a pretty picture developing....I think the next time we go to the store, we'll buy some extra TP.

Yes! I stock up on cheaper items until I see what is going to be on the shelves. I remember going to Wal Mart and seeing empty shelves and no meat! And the looks on peoples' faces. It never hurts to be prepared, buy soups, spam, and the like.

I've found it difficult to reduce that stockpile, from back when. I guess I can resume, topping it off.

No longer buy stuff from China, but,
had a conversation with an employee
of Walmart yesterday. He said they
can't get things anymore.
I mentioned the upcoming rail strike
He said, "Good! Less work for me!"
(!!????!!???!!)
@Buckeye, I don't drink but
maybe I should take it up for the
next two years! haha!

I have never stopped. If they are things I will use or my son's family will use they go in the cart. When there are loss leaders I am there and I stock. By doing this inflation stays away from my house. I have everything I want and need. The toilet paper is now purchased by the case. LOL

I can’t buy four-packs of toilet paper lately, so I’m resigned to buying it in quantity, and gagging at the price. Coffee k-cups too are up in price, but some relief may be found in buying a box of 32 rather than 10, and making the purchase less often… ☕

We stay stocked up. You won't see us panicking at the stores because the shelves are devoid of water and basic staples. My sister and I didn't grow up in the same household (we're "half" sisters) but she's the same way. My son takes after me too.

All the local stores had food price increases over the last week. All including Walmart. I've never seen these stores raise prices at the sametime.

The Walmart trip was bad. Not only was the store in bad shape their pricing was off with different prices on the display than at the register. Have 2 discount supermarkets a 1/2 mile apart who usually wind up with the same price on certain items by the end of the week. Now they seem to price match up or down with in hours, there is no lag time.

In the meantime generics or store brands seem to be in short supply Can't generic soda. Peas and carrots were out for a while. Mixed frozen vegetables increasing big time yet frozen peas returned/dropped or stores had door buster sales on them.

No consistency at all in price or availability. I hate to buy extra because it's not only more money up front but I don't want to hoard but with certain prices or items that's what others have no problem doing.

In the last few weeks.. we've had thousands of train drivers and rail staff on strike.. no trains or Tubes running.. and it's continuing through December..

70,000 lecturers, librarians and researchers across 150 UK universities went on strike for 3 days in November

This month will also see around 100,000 civil servants across over 100 government departments walk out, impacting the Home Office, Job Centres, passport and DVLA procedures , The Border force and more .
The military is expected to be drafted in to cover for Border Force workers.

Road workers have announced that they will strike over 12 days in December and January, with the action risking “ bringing the road network to a standstill.”

They will strike in different parts of England on December 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, and 31, and on January 3, 4, 6, and 7.

We've had the Postal workers on strike for several days last month and this month , and there's more strike days to come..

On the 15th and 16 of this month , 300,00 NHS nursing staff and Medics are striking...they want a 26 % pay increase...

In the meantime our energy prices have risen 110% in the last 6 months... our fuel is the most expensive in Europe, and our food prices have risen exponentially this year...

So... if you think you have problems with a train strike.. give a little thought to the UK.. and the massive problems we're having here ..:(

Also to add further to my previous Post...

Firefighters, in the UK who refused a five per cent pay rise, will run a ballot on strike action from December 5 to January 30.

More than 33,000 firefighters and control room staff will vote from today on whether to take industrial action.

Here are some of the other disputes which have led to strikes or ballots for action:

  • Physiotherapists and midwives are also being asked if they want to take industrial action.

  • More than 70,000 university staff at 150 universities are to strike on November 24, 25 and 30 after the University and College Union announced its members had overwhelmingly voted in favour of action.

  • Almost 1,000 bus drivers in London employed by Abellio are to stage 10 days of strike action in the coming weeks over pay, their union Unite has announced.

  • Over 50 security guards and CCTV operators at Harrods are set to walk out for 12 days in the build-up to Christmas, according to Unite.
  • The workers in food factories that make Twiglets and Jacob’s Cream Crackers have been on indefinite strike since September.

  • 500 workers at housing charity Shelter will walk out from December 5 to December 18 in a dispute over pay.
  • G4S workers who deliver cash to big names like Barclays, HSBC, Tesco and Asda are on strike today Monday 4th December

In todays news...

Rail unions are attempting to “hold London to ransom” this Christmas after rejecting a pay deal and vowing to plough ahead with strikes, MPs have warned.
London Minister Paul Scully accused the RMT of threatening to “create misery” over the festive period by refusing to back down over walkouts this month and in the new year.

Some 40,000 staff members across Network Rail and 14 train companies are taking industrial action on December 13, 14, 16 and 17 and on January 3, 4, 6 and 7 after talks broke down last night.

The RMT rejected a 4 per cent pay rise deal from the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) which the union said came with “unacceptable” conditions, including vast changes to working practices, job losses, the closure of ticket offices and Driver Only Operated trains on all companies.

Mr Scully said: “These strikes will mean Christmas misery for Londoners trying to get home or get to work.
