Tobacco: The most evil business in the world

Sugar industry is as evil. There is intentional creation of addiction, beginning with little kids. More than half of typical grocery stores are filled with this crack.
That is soooo true..sugar is addictive and one of the worst ingredients we can take in our bodies...plus it is in everything...I have a hard time resisting once I 'start' cookies, candy etc...so I try to wait until after dinner for any sugary dessert...sometimes I can, sometimes I fail

What ticks me off is taxpayers pay for tons of ads to get people to quit smoking............... but the reality is if many people do they would need to find a replacement for the large TAX on tobacco. so why bother with the fake pretense of ads money can be used somewhere else.

I agree with sugar and targeting kids with all products even those supposed to be for adults ....
look at alcohol they flavor most now with fruity or sweet flavors in a lot of alcohol.
I saw cotton candy vodka really who is that aimed at?

one can look at the amount of SALT added to products ...

I definitely agree with your viewpoint on alcohol. In this area, it's considered no big deal for kids to drink.. yet they wonder why there are so many alcoholics.
It's certainly a good idea to discourage kids from using tobacco products, but they should put at least as much effort into reducing underaged drinking.

They have cute sayings like " know your limit" on alcohol ads ..... totally useless statement ......

I think fast food could use "know your limit" on their drive up window signs 🤣..... maybe that is a fight against obesity...
I just think it is a waste of time to talk out of both sides of their mouths when they do attempt these PSA type ads about smoking and drinking...

Funny uber bought a service called Drizly.... that promises to deliver to your home .... alcohol in under an hour... so if you have been drinking all day but running low no worries.......
I have not seen and i do not use so i would need to look up if Insta cart or other shopping services will pick up a few packs or carton of smokes...chewing tobacco or whatever?
Probably not but you can smoke and drive.

This is a worthy thread, the addition of sugar and salt is also worth noting, in addition to tobacco.
Quitting smoking is so very difficult because the tobacco is sprayed with additional addictive chemicals during the process of cigarette manufacture. So although it's nicotine that gives the smoker the high, there are other, more subtle chemicals at work too.

In another thread I mentioned that I was in hospital for a year when I was a young teenage boy. During that time, and after, at the regular physio sessions, I saw so many patients that had a leg amputation. Being fourteen, I just assumed that the amputees were most probably war victims. Much later I learned that smoking had caused artery blockage leading to gangrene and the loss of a leg.

Back when I started smoking it didn't kill you, well if your doctor smoked in the surgery, it couldn't be harmful, could it? I started around the age of 17 and quit by the time I was 22. Thank goodness I did.

As for sugar, it's worth remembering that four grams of sugar equals one small teaspoonful. We should consume no more than six teaspoonfuls per day. But the average consumption is twenty-two teaspoonfuls per day, almost four times the recommended limit.
Nearly all of that comes from, as others have rightly pointed out, hidden sugar in processed foods.

It's much the same pattern with salt. The recommended intake should be no more than six grams, but we consume fifty percent more than that. The biggest risk of excess salt intake is high blood pressure. The British NHS report that in 2010, cardiovascular disease caused over 50,000 premature deaths in the UK. High blood pressure is a key risk factor. Again the excess salt is hidden in processed foods.

In this area, grocery stores that you can order from for home delivery do deliver all the alcohol products they sell.. but will not deliver tobacco or vape products. I've heard even Walgreens and Taco Bell are getting on the bandwagon (with alcohol).

Sure, you can smoke and drive- and not cause an accident by driving under-the-influence of nicotine.

i know all the damage smoking can cause most of my family were smokers ... i always though too expensive of habit.... many that quit had instant benefits ... most ads show real awful outcomes

Alcohol i did not know until a friend shared that her husband a long term alcoholic decided to quit did cold turkey and was living in a nursing home ( he was not elderly) but needed medical help as it is very dangerous for long term to quit like that ......
he had a couple good months but the damage was clear after he stopped and with in a year his health just went to hell and he passed away.
That real life example made the dangers especially of long term use clear to me.
the only thing stressed is death by accident with alcohol ...... but long term damage is there

Salt is a big issue ..................as heart disease is one of our biggest health issues.....
yet no one seems to pay attention and one must read the labels not count on lower sodium if they even have that option.

Gluten free is on everything ( saw it on hair dye ) but I do not think gluten sensitivity is as big a problem as sodium is.

Remember "Candy Cigarettes"? I loved them. I would never eat the red end first. Already being conditioned to smoke tobacco as a child when getting addicted to sugar. Wow!

The candy cigarettes which let you blow a puff of smoke

I was a smoker then quit tobacco 4 or 5 years ago. Then I took up vaping for about 3 years and quit that about a year ago. I still use nicotine lozenges for the habit. I have lately had the urge for a cigarette but have not had one.

It's a tough, very addictive habit to fight.

They were my favorites. Also those Pink Bubble Gum Cigars.
I think many that remember them liked them yet they are deemed as targeting ......
where as adding flavors to make alcohol to taste more like Kool-aid is just ok

I don't agree that tobacco is the most evil business. Sure, they make it addictive and have lied about the dangers of smoking, but we still have free will to quit. Nobody's forcing us to smoke.

To me, factory farms are the most evil business. Animals at factory farms lead miserable lives in confinement, often never even seeing sunshine, and they're plumped up with hormones that make their meat bad for us. The only reason they're raised in those miserable conditions is profit. But the really disgusting thing is that we as a society allow it to exist and continue to exist without outrage. That says a lot about humanity, or the lack thereof.

Factory farms , are driven by profit over good housing, food and medicine. We are animals too, and the same motive of industries/major corporations perpetrated on their own kind leads to severe suffering. ( which to me is even more insidious ). I agree we all are caged chickens ( pun intended ) to do something about it.

Tobacco and alcohol are highly taxed.... if use was even cut by half ... government would freak out at loss of revenue.....
salt is way over used .... that is why prepared foods/ restaurant foods seem to taste different then home versions... Watch any food network show that go into restaurants and see the volume of salt added.

Friend recently treated for a-fib told to limit salt ........heart was not working this person had almost 25lbs of water retention

So shopping and discussing with other friends really opened our eyes to items that are way over salted even if you can not taste ...
some commercial breads for example had 250 mg per serving ....
side dish flavored potato or rice dishes are up to 550 mg per serving you can taste on these
one tablespoon of steak sauce 190 mg

nutritional site says rule of thumb 140 or less per serving is the target on foods...
